tesco vouchers used on virgin holidays any good

  • I have a tesco credit card - which gives me 1pt for every £2 spent wherever...which means if I spend £100 @ tesco, I get 150 points, plus spending elsewhere. I pay my credit off using an internet bank, so it's like a debit card really...takes 5 mins a week. In two years, average family of four, £1490 Cosmos tokens = 2 wks in Malta, cash of £520 towards. I HAVE to shop somewhere, and couldn't save £1500 in the same period, so a bonus for us...

I think £750 a year is easily do-able as we spent £500 vouchers on a bathroom from MFI in October too...:-))

  • kazd just to mention that 1000 points = £10.00 voucher which is equal to £40 of virgin/cosmos vouchers

If you book a holiday via Virgin with clubcard vouchers you need to book accommodation for the duration of your stay. If you fly with Cosmos then you can do flight only (although they only do Florida from May-October HTH

  • We have just returned from a £260 holiday in Sri Lanka 2weeks full board, courtesy of Mr T and Cosmos. No we did not get the on-line discount price, however only paying £260 in cash for two of us, we don't think that was a bad deal. Used £1670 of vouchers.
Last year I had vouchers that had ran out of date - not a problem returned them to Tesco who credited my account, so they were re issued on the next voucher issue.

i have to disagree with you there. we went to Florida last year and did a tailor made holiday.we went for 17 nts and booked 11 nts with them and for the other 6 nts it had own arrangements on the invoice. as long as you book 7nts accommodation with virgin you can book other nights yourself if it suits you.
when i go next year i plan to book 1 night then a 7nt cruise and if i don't have enough vouchers i will book the other 5 nts separate. but check out virgin's hotel only as our friends booked a couple of their hotels with virgin as they worked out cheaper than the other sites they looked at.
on your other point re cosmos they told me they only did the brochured holidays not tailor made when i enquired about our east coast trip 2 years ago and that you must book accommodation as well.

Jeanna - I am wondering if they have recently changed their t&c's regarding using vouchers (see my post #20 in this thread)? Perhaps I did just speak to someone who didn't know what they were talking about. Would be useful to get a definitive answer on this if anyone else has queried it recently.

from what i can gather the accommodation has to be in their brochures.i enquired about their European cruises that are showing on their website but they said i couldn't book them with vouchers as they don't have a brochure for them as they have just joined the company[ fast track] recently. so i'm hoping they end up doing them as well
  • good to know re Virgin.

I think that cosmos used to have to have accommodation but recently changed it.

that sounds good about cosmos mumofjusttwo. booking your flights with them and then cheaper or better accommodation if you don't have enough or not want to use all your vouchers.

you could phone and explain what you have done. worth a try.

Well Jeanna I did it! Phoned Virgin and they knocked off the extra accommodation that I had booked whilst I was on the cruise. Thanks to your post I have saved over £200! :j This makes a big difference for my next holiday which I am saving tokens for. I want to go to Thailand to visit my brother and would like to book some of my own accommodation as Virgin charge almost full price for kids if you do a twin centre you only get a 25% discount. If you book early and save up your vouchers you get a great deal!

Someone help me out here, am I being completely thick. I am trying to work out clubcard points to amount spent. So £100 = 100pts £1000 = 1000pts, okay just answered my own question, its a 1p per point. Couldn't work out if I spent £7158.95 in 2006 why I only had £105 in vouchers.

I wonder if we can persuade them to lengthen the dates. I have approx £174 in vouchers (worth approx £696). So yes its nice to get £696 off something but I could get that off just by being a frequent flyer. You get 5% off for booking online and then you can get a further 10% for being a frequent flyer. So my £4k flights would only be £600 cheaper, so by using the vouchers I would only save £96.

I think this means that my argument that vouchers are better spent where the prices aren't loaded holds water.

    Hi

We are a family of 4 with a Tesco Credit Card and I try to save points as much as possible within reason. I saved for a couple of years and managed to get £1660 in Virgin Holiday Vouchers and booked early over a year ahead so I got a very good deal. The flight prices have now gone up considerably and other operators may have better deals.
