I keep getting asked to quickly scan Tesco clubcard at self-checkouts. Is this danderous?
A few times recently, I've been standing at the self checkout when somebody next to me has asked to quickly use my Clubcard, presumably so that they will get the clubcard discount on their purchase.
I'm always happy to help but just wondering if there's any sort of security risk in doing this?

One issue is that you are fraudulently collecting points to which you are not entitled to.
My branch now has cameras so if I did that they would see two card scans in quick succession followed by payment by two different customers.
Continue at your own risk.

Bit odd, they could get a brand-new clubcard on their phone in a few minutes, get the discount AND the points.
Not seeing any way this could be a security risk, might skew your shopping profile a bit if they've just bought 8 2ltr bottles of Strongbow.

this happened to me not long ago. I innocently scanned my clubcard on their self checkout…and I had a money off coupon within my clubcard - when I checked later on my coupon was gone - the other person must have got the money off their shopping instead of me!

Is there anything in their T&Cs that says you can't do this? I've done similar in Lidl when I had a freebie coupon that I knew I wasn't going to use and the person next in the queue was buying that. I've offered to put the item through with my shopping and made sure the person on the till was aware so there would be no accusations for the person "stealing" anything.

There was an MSE Money Moral Dilemma around this subject a year ago
albeit more around collecting loyalty points from others' shopping, rather than granting discounts.

If the person asking you to scan your card is caught doing something dodgy it will be your name in the frame.

I had the cashier ask me once if I had a clubcard for the person in front as they didn't, so if it is against the terms of the card then guess it's not well known by staff.
I was also out in Bristol once and stopped in a busy Tesco express which I guess is used lots by either students or people on a pub crawl, I wanted some water and a snack to soak up the alcohol and the cashier was scanning I assume her clubcard for anyone that didn't have theirs - unless they have one that collects for charity?

The Clubcard is not transferable, cannot be copied and can only be used by the member who is named and registered on the account. Clubcard key fobs may be used by anyone who is resident at the same registered address.
8.Tesco may decline to issue, withdraw or cancel Clubcards, coupons, vouchers and points, in whatever form, and/or remove a member from the scheme if: there is reasonable belief of any abuse or attempted abuse of the scheme, any breach or attempted breach of these terms and conditions and/or those relating to the optional elements of the scheme, any behaviour relating to Clubcard or the Tesco Group that involves theft, misconduct, abusive or offensive behaviour, or supplying false or misleading information.
If someone swipes your card then clearly it isn't being used by the member. What about if the member swipes it but it's not their shopping? If the T&Cs are to be interpreted literally then that appears to be fine.

My credit card acts as the clubcard
Not sure I would risk swiping that for anyone else as I don't want to pay for their shopping instead

I've had a staff member in Tesco asking if anyone had a clubcard. Someone was buying some whey protein I think. It was on offer but they didn't have a clubcard. I was happy to scan mine. They get the discount and I get the points.
