I keep getting asked to quickly scan Tesco clubcard at self-checkouts. Is this danderous?

I bought some groceries at Tesco and in the queue I realised I had left my phone in the car, all my cards are on it so I asked the person in front to scan their club card as my stuff was being scanned, they did and I got the reductions.

No risk yo anyone.

My clubcard is on my Tesco credit card, so I'd be wary of doing that in case it took payment too.

I always choose to use self-service.

I can scan and pack in my own time instead of having items flung at me as they are wizzed through the scanner.

And I can check the price as my items are scanned.

You'll already be getting a discount because of the self-service checkouts.

The big supermarkets are very competitive on price - they all want to be the cheapest, in order to attract more customers.

Cutting staff costs by installing self-service checkouts is one way that they can make their products cheaper.

So if you're used a staffed checkout, you're being subsidised by all the people who use the self-service checkouts.

(Perhaps a fairer approach would be if people using staffed checkouts paid an extra 50p or £1 service charge, to cover the staff costs of somebody scanning their shopping for them!)

I haven't posted since August until then and have made very few posts in total. You must have had to look at my profile and previous comments…………and then you ask if I've got nothing better to do with my time! 🤣😂

By the way it seems most others agree and actually understand self checkouts lower prices. Many people including myself prefer to use them, they can often be significantly quicker particularly if you do a scan as you shop. My point is no one cares if you're going to get all uppity about them, that's your problem, try growing up a bit!

Well you already work for them for most of the shop, why complain at the last hurdle? Shoppers used to inform the cashier at a grocer what you wanted, for them to fetch the item, scan and bag. Instead shoppers now walk around the store picking up what they want, load it onto a conveyor belt, bag it themselves afterwards. Just the scanning bit of the job is still done by staff.

Though I was in Asda once at a conventional till, the person behind me fed up of waiting said to their friend "let's go to the self checkout as it's cheaper" I assume they were going for a 5 finger discount so I made sure the cashier was away.
