unfortunately TT get away with it because it says up to 3 mpbs but I never get as much as that - yes I know it's shocking!

OK, but if they can't deliver the minimum speed guarantee - this is your specific, personalised minimum speed which is specified when the contract starts, then you must be released from the contract. You have to report the issue to them and give them an opportunity to fix it. There is nothing to lose by checking what that is and pushing them if they are not meeting it - either they improve your speed or you have the opportunity to leave penalty free.

What network do you use?
It could be the mobile signal of the provider. Also try to do a speed test outdoor with your phone. There are outdoor 5G/ 4G router you could purchase if you can get decent signal.
As of mobile data, the cheapest one usually be scancom three 1000GB per month with hukd discount code. That usually work out under £3 per month.
EE 1000GB is £15 per month with discount code. Go to hukd and search when you are ready to purchase.
By the way, Starlink is £40 per month if you can't get mobile BB work.

Do you mean that Talktalk have stated that you can get up to just 3Mbps at the router? I'm surprised they even offered you a contract in the first place.
