I don't know of any other way of testing the speed/router without a LAN cable test.

Look for a USB ethernet adaptor and plug it in to a USB 3 port.

@RnK136 BTW, that "wait 14 days for stabilisation" they told you is an outright lie, that only ever applies to ADSL and FTTC (to a lesser extent), FTTP is optical all the way to the ONT and needs no 'settling'.

Your issues are almost certainly due to the poor wifi performance of the Max hub. A wifi mesh system is the way to go.

There's many options. Do you have a likely budget for one? A pair of TP-Link M4 will set you back £74, a 3 pack is £109 on Amazon but there are cheaper options even from TP-Link themselves. Plug one into the ISP router and disable the routers wifi, set the pods to AP mode and you'll never regret it. Just don't waste money on powerline extenders from anyone or ISP supplied pods.

The thing is, no - I didn't budget for having to buy kit to fix poor WiFi.

This is why I am looking into switching to another ISP whilst still within Sky 31 day cooling off period.

Up to you obviously but there's no guarantee that any other ISP will be any different. BT do have a decent reputation for their router at least but the extra cost could be spent on a decent wifi mesh system, then you don't have to worry about it again regardless of the router used.
