About £100 on charging

If you booked the wrong date presumably you would have had the same journey for the correct dates.
Did you also go on the correct dates?

Regarding the screenshot of chat, isn't that a bot virtual agent?
May not be correct.
What comes up if you click the cancel button (before committing to anything)?

I haven't read all the posts but was this booking at very short notice i.e. just a couple of days before the date of travel? If so, T&C probably state the notice period prior to occupation required. That's likely to be the bottom line.

No, it was booked several weeks before.
I think OP accepts that no refund would be due when cancelling with whatever notice was given, but formed the impression that there was an additional 100% 'penalty charge' on top of that, which I don't believe to be what the agent (virtual or otherwise) was actually trying to convey…

I agree. I’ve seen similar wording on many of my bookings. A 100% penalty (loss of) of all the booking amount, not an additional charge on top.
If you’ve only paid a deposit I can see that they might want the remainder. But if you’ve paid in full, then there’s no additional loss to them if you don’t show up.

I really can't believe that
booking.comEXPEDIA would keep the full amount AND charge the same amount for non-occupancy.I'm sure the OP misunderstood.

We don't know what booking.com would do, but they're not entitled to anything here as the thread is about Expedia! 😉
But yes, as above, misunderstanding seems likely…

My bad.
Post amended
But as you say "But yes, as above, misunderstanding seems likel"

There is no way on earth Expedia/The Hotel could/would charge someone extra for not staying, that would be absolutely absurd
When OP asked the question, the agent (human or AI) misunderstood the question.
