Expedia cancellation fee

Booked wrong dates for accommodation, totally my fault wanted to cancel but expedia wanted 100% of the booking to cancel or not show up

Ie. I paid £250 for the accommodation but they wanted another £250 to cancel or if I didn't shown up?

Wasn't looking for a refund.

So had to do 1k round trip for two nights so I didn't have to pay another £250?!

That doesn't sound right - had you only paid a deposit perhaps?

They wanted another £250, or where they wanting to keep the whole £250 (i.e. not refund you anything) ?

    Those are quite different.

I think there's been a misunderstanding somewhere. There's no way Expedia were going to charge you £250, on top of the £250 you'd already paid, if you'd either cancelled or not shown up.

That's assuming that was the full price. If it was a deposit, the T&Cs will have determined whether the remainer was due, even if you cancelled or did not show up.

  • I had paid in full,they wanted another £250

This is from the original chat. There was 'no response' from the resort, even though there is a manned reception every day

So you're saying that the total cost of the accommodation booking was £250 if you stayed there but £500 if you didn't? That still doesn't sound right at all, but if that's what they're putting to you then I'd suggest asking them to highlight where in the Ts & Cs of the booking there's anything that would allow them to impose a 100% surcharge in that way!

Did they put this unusual request in writing and if so, are you able to share, with any personal details redacted?

Edit: cross-posted - which hotel is this?

Edit 2: it's not unusual for bookings to be subject to a 100% cancellation fee at the last minute, but that generally means that you get no refund, not that you're expected to pay the full cost twice - admittedly the agent may have implied otherwise above but they're also claiming to be trying to rebook at no extra charge. Did they actually charge you twice?

  • £250 was the full price for the three nights

"… I paid £250 for the accommodation but they wanted another £250 to cancel or if I didn't shown up…"

    Really?

Do you think you may have got hold of the wrong end of the stick?

  • Here is the statement at the bottom of the booking

Notwithstanding the earlier comments above, if you paid extra for trip cancellation protection, doesn't that cover you?
