I'll admit it - I tend to spend a few hours each day. I have a full-time job so don't get the chance to enter any during the day and do them at night when I get home. That normally means spending at least 2 hours clearing the 10 pages or so of comps that have built up while I've been at work - don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, I appreciate everyone posting them! It does sometimes feels like a part-time job, but I've won loads of lovely stuff and loads of fund doing it! :D

    Total to date - £309.15
March wins - Leaves of Grass DVD
  • I'll say it again, the chances of winning any given comp is not affected by how many other comps you enter.

d130 - yeah, I'm lucky in that I work from home - I usually turn the 'puter on first thing and use checking new comps as a wake-up device (its usually at least an hour before I'm awake enough to be competent at anything more complex than hitting the roboform 'fill' button, lol)
Win 2008 in 2008 member number.....237!!! Won so far: £0.00

Wins so far... Dec 2007: DVS Trainers (Cooler Mag Website) (£40); 2x£5 Thornton's Gift Voucher (online spending only); Thomas Monahan print; Zutons xmas party gig tix and hotel stay!!!!!!!; 1 years subscription to a deisgner handbag hire company

I won a 2 week gym pass for K West in London - I can't use it so if you can and you want it, PM me. First PM to arrive gets the prize. Added: 15th January 2008.
  • Same as d130 - I spend a couple of hours per night catching up on the comps listed since I last left off the night before so usually about 10 pages.

Only enter for stuff I want or that other people I know would want. Probably enter about 50-70 per day which works out at 18250-25550 per year:eek:
I've won about 120 prizes during 2007 to the value of just over £5600 so even though its hard work, it is worth it. I have a lovely holiday to Dubai coming up in April due to a comp win :D and I've had many many other prizes that have been fantastic.
  • a holiday in Dubai is an excellent win - congrats!!

I was made up winning some kewl trainers days after starting to comp, but I need new trainers so it was a v. welcome win (hey, I'm a girl, even if I don't need new trainers, I still need new trainers ;) )

I reckon I spend roughly an hour and a half a day at the most entering competitions. I don't enter every day though. I have no idea how many I enter, probably about a thousand a week,

the masterthief moniker cam about because Scrybe was taken :( plus, it kinda fits..... a master thief is someone who can take a lot without getting caught, and if you take a lot of stuff by winning comps or getting freebies, ya not gonna get caught.........

Meh, that was a lame attempt to justify it. Masterthief is the result of watching way too many James Bond and similar movies as a kid. :)

This has come up several times before (look at discussions passum) - the general view was that in terms of hours spent versus return, most people would be getting less than the minimum wage.

Speaking of hourly rates,My hourly rate in 07 is at least £7 an hour (600 hours div by 4,734). I have found it a thoroughly enjoyable hobby, and love the banter, and the spirit of the board.
Hope everyone wins what they want in 08, good luck
