The chances of winnings, and time spent on comps.

I spend maybe 1 1/2 to 2hrs a day entering comps and I have a steady stream of prizes although this is the first year I have been entering so many ( starting mid dec ). The more you enter the more chance of winning
Wife to a great husband and mum to 4 fantastic kids 9,8,4,3 they drive me mad but I would do anything and give everything for my family :grinheart

You can't calculate it as odds.......I used to go through phases of entering loads and winning a reasonable amount of small to medium prizes but my two big wins (£5K each)both came at times I was entering less than usual.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

yeh but masterthief, surely if i enter 50 comps for ipod nanos in one month i would have a better chance of ending up with an ipod nano then if i entered 10 comps for ipod nanos within a month? therefore i have to disagree with you, im sorry!
it depends on the odds of each comp. if you enter 10 nano comps on rarely visited sites and 40 nano comps on major sites, then the extra 40 comp entries can have a negligble effect on your overall chances.
I've entered ITV family fortunes, loose women, and 5000 pound comps hundreds of times, each time entering the maximum no. of entries permitted per person, but haven't won. this is hardly surprising given the likelihood that there are thsouands, if not 100's of thousand of other entries.
on the other hand, I won a thomas monaghn print and DVS trainer with one entry into each comp, but there were (I'm fairly certain) far fewer entries into those comps, so my odds of winning those were much higher than my odds of winning the itv stuff, despite me entering the itv stuff more than those comps.
it simply isn't necessarily true that entering more comps = more wins. but I think that is the assertion that is interpreted when ppl post on threads saying you have to enter as many comps as possible. you don't. you only have to enter the ones you win - your chance of winning compA is only affected by whether or not you enter compA, not whether you also enter compsB-Z. the rub is that you can only 'know' you'll win compA after you've won it.Win 2008 in 2008 member number.....237!!! I enjoy entering comps it fills my evenings when kids have gone to bed (hubby works nights). It stops me spending money on line as it gives me something to do when I am bored (and before you ask I already have a full time job I am just a bit hypoactive). It does become a bit of an obsession(sorry if spelt wrong) but it costs nothing. Its like gambling but without the spending.
maybe we should start CA ( comps anonymous )
Hi I am Nikki 32 years and I have been addicted to comping since October 2007

Yeah, sorry about that. I was worried that this wasn't the right place to post this. But I only checked the sub-boards, and saw no option. I totally forgot about the 'sticky' threads.
Thanks for all your responses. It really has enlightened me; some people entering hundreds/thousands over short periods of time!0 -

If you're interested on the wins by people on the board, look on the very top thread - 'I won I won I won!' You'll see an impressive amount of prizes.
I think it's completely the luck of the draw, but the more you enter, the more chance you have of winning!.42.7 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot:hello: Good Luck everyone !:hello:0 -
There's only one certainty as regards entering comps ....................
If you ain't in it, you can't win it.
Purely luck what you win.
