Halifax Reg Saver 8% - no idea where to open one !

Just for non Halifax / Lloyds members - has anyone actually managed to open one of these new accounts? I have been on the website and appear to be stuck in a doom loop and unable to actually find the place to apply ! Any help / links appreciated. I've also tried the app, but this states that I ned to open a current account first, and then re-directs me to the website if I don't want a current account - agghhhhh

if it’s any help, if you get a credit card you can get one via the app. You just need to be a customer I think. I don’t have a current account with them but do have credit cards and it’s all good.

Thanks @jaypers - I am trying to avoid any additional accounts, and just have the Halifax Reg Saver. I am wondering if they have deliberately set it up to try and get you to sign up to a current acc or credit card !

In light of your post I’ve been having a play and your issue seems to be the case on all their savings accounts (I started to wonder whether you could open an Instant Saver or similar first). Every one takes you into the loop you speak of if you say you’re a ‘new customer’ so I believe there is an issue with their website.

Not just me then? I tried calling and was told I could do it in the app but the app says you can't if you don't already have a c/a. And you can't register for online banking without an account number. And because I'd downloaded the app, tapping on the Apply Now button took me to the app so I had to uninstall it. Still keeps returning me to the savings page. Even customer service couldn't help.

Should cause them some chaos until they fix it as see it’s on MSE as an ‘open to all’ account so guess there are an increasing number of people scratching their heads in exasperation.

Well, yes, that's basically what they're trying to get you to do. They are offering such an amazing interest rate as a loss leader to entice you to use their other services. There's no obligation to actually use their current account, so if you want to benefit from the 8% account the easiest way is to open a current account but leave it empty.

I certainly used to be possible, unlike Lloyds and Bank of Scotland, Halifax has no requirement to hold a current account to open their regular saver, it should be possible to open and hold as a standalone account with them. There is no mention of needing any other account in their terms and conditions.

It is there on their online system pc and app. I was not aware, thanks for the heads up.

Just a thought, could I just pay in for so many months i.e. first payment will attract 8% for year. Second 11/12s of 8% (7.34%) and so on and then just leave it there once I get below the interest rate I am getting elsewhere?

    Thanks

I don't think there is an error with the Halifax website. My guess is that today is the next big step of shutting down the Halifax brand. The Halifax 8% RS was not listed on Moneyfacts yesterday, when all the BoS and Lloyds versions were. Any attempt as a new customer to open an Halifax account today pushes you to Lloyds.

I don't have any accounts with Halifax..

Would like to avoid opening another current account and getting a credit search

Anybody know if you can just open the RS?
