I recently applied online for a Barclaycard Platinum offering 0% for 14 months.
The card came through and I telephoned to arrange the 0% balance transfer, only to be told that the 0% didn't apply to my account, but that I could have 6.9% life-of-balance. I complained that I had specifically applied for the 0% deal, but the operator kept reading from a script and I got nowhere. I closed my account on the spot.
I rechecked the Barclaycard website where I'd made my original application and ALL of the Platinum cards on offer carry a 0% deal.
Has this happened to anyone else? Is Barclaycard misleading applicants?

Thanks for posting.
I would advise anyone considering this card to have a read through this thread, before you apply. You will see that Barclaycard figures quite prominently and rarely for the right reasons.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -

How can that be? I have just been on the previous thread about Barclays card and some of us have applied through links cited in posts. And are awaiting the cards. How can Barclays turn around and say no 0% BT when the website on which you make the online application says so? Did you not print out the t&c? Talk to some senior person. Will let you know in a week's time what has happened to my application - applied today.0 -
Hi geet,
Yes, I did read t&c's - seemed OK as I have an excellent credit record - or is that the problem?
Asked to speak to complaints dept. and was put through to call centre in India - more reading from script. Asked to escalate the complaint - even more reading from script. Asked to speak with someone senior in the UK - refused completely. Made a formal complaint and was told there's a 5 day turnaround.
Good luck with your application!

Barclaycard, like Capital One, operates a rate for risk policy. It has a range of credit cards and you will be offered one depending on its credit score of you. In the worst cases you can apply for a card, then be sent a totally unsuitable one, thus leaving you with a wasted search on your credit file.
Also, Barclaycard has become rather stringent with available credit. Currently, this lender turns away some 50% of applicants and credit limits tend to be low.
On the plus side, Barclaycard holders receive regular existing customer offers including 0% BTs and its online services are good. Telephone back-up is dire though, as
you've discovered :rolleyes:People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -

As far as I know Balance Transfers on to a Credit Card are only for balances on existing Credit Cards .....The only way I can imagine you helping your situation would be to get some other credit with a lower interest rate than the overdraft is . Otherwise you'll need to tray and reduce or pay off the OD0 -

This can only be done with a few rather special cards.
They are the cards with the so-called SBT (Super Balance Transfer) facility.
These include Egg, Egg Money and any card adminstered by MBNA (including the Virgin range of cards).
In addition MINT periodically issue Credit Card cheques that can be paid into a Bank Account at Balance Transfer rates. However, this is the least satisfactory option because the cheques cannot be ordered and unless you already have them, you don't know precisely when they will drop though your letterbox.0 -
Hi,
At the moment I have just finished paying off a loan with HSBC for £1800 and have £7000 on my HSBC credit card. I am trying to work out what would be the best way to go about paying this off with as little intrest as possible.
The B T article mentions the barclaycard platinum being a good idea because it has a low rate for the life of the card but this thread seems to disagree.
I am determined to pay this off and get rid of the debt for good, I'm just not sure the best way to go about it.
Please help!!0 -
