Unfortunately, it is relevant. Said poster (please see #623 above) is not an isolated case. Also, the so-called rate for risk policy affects life-of-balance applicants as well. This means that Barclaycard reserves the right to issue the credit card it deems most suitable from its range. In the worst cases you can be sent a totally different & unsuitable card, leaving you with a wasted search on your credit file.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
Because the 0% balance transfer is conditional on a minimum £100 spend.
Yes I was able to work that out for myself but that can be done after the card is issued .Did you read my quote from LTSB's website at message 639 where it says that the £100 spend should take place within the first three months to get the 0% BT for the full period otherwise it is restricted to a 3 month period .0 -
ooh talking about me in my absence
I havent been able to moan at them because until i get the physical card I cant process the BT. cvv digits i guess they are after.
I know their is a min spend of £100, which will attract interest, as no doubt will the BT fee. I can live with that.
But the min spend is in 1st 3 months of having card, BT must be processed within 6 weeks. Therefore I should by default get the 14 months, then if i dont spend £100 it reverts to standard rate. Of course I will be spending the £100.
Other than not being offered what i was sold on automaticallly (initially tried to fob me off with no special offers) what i am annoyed is that they say 14 months isnt possible(confirmed by customer services and BT section), while they are plainly advertising it.
Once card arrives I will be back on phone for a moan.0 -

'Not sure what your argument is about here, Petmidget. Ts & Cs seem clear and unambiguous to me. You must spend a minimum of £100 in the first three months from account opening, to get the 0% balance transfer for 14 months. You may not like it, but that's the deal.
Btw, you're right about the handling charges. BT fees attract interest, but LTSB is quite up front about that as well.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -

Someone suggested earlier to buy something with your £100,pay it off THEN BT your balance to the card .That way you avoid paying interest on your £100 purchase . I still don't understand why LTSB seem to be playing silly !!!!!!s ( re your t/call) after all it doesn't say you have to pay the £100 before you get the 0% BT ..it just means your term at 0% is restricted if you don't buy the £100 within the time alloted .0 -
I applied for the Virgin credit card online and also got the message telling me to call them.
When I did, they approved me but with slightly modified terms of 3% BT fee (I think it's quoted at 2.98%) and I was told I had to pay the BT fee within a certain amount of time or the 0% would not apply.
I figured that the time to pay the BT fee must be sooner than my first normaly payment would be due, because that would have been more than the BT fee anyway, so I've just payed it now to be safe but it still struck me as a strange condition.0 -

My understanding with Virgin is that they actually collect the Balance Transfer fee as part of the first payment and that it doesn't accrue any interest. I don't think you need to make an extra payment to cover the fee.0 -
You're probably right but as they gave me slightly modified terms when approving my application, and the lady specifically said something about needing to pay the BT fee within a certain time or I would lose the promotional rate, I decided to pay the BT fee now just to be safe0

This is exactly how i read it. I do BT at or just after opening. Then so long as I spend £100 within 3 months this automatically gives me 14 months as per T&C's and advertisements. I should not have to spend the £100 first, I dont even have the card to spend it !!!!!!.
As to spending the £100 and paying it off, bit too risky in timing, I imagine I would have to wait for a statement to pay it off (no doubt buried in terms somewhere), meaning 6 weeks will be touch and go. I would rather poay the few £'s.
But CS and BT sections seem totally oblivious of this being advertised. Ad does say account to be opened online, which I did. But doesnt state BT to be done online, and even then the online BT only offers 6 months not 14.0
