  • I agree, Barclaycard is not always the best especially in terms of credit limits (which are sometimes poor) but it appears their process is so rubbish that they don't take down their links, even now the 14m BT offer with a 2.5% fee is still live and seems to be a valid application which is the best in the market by far - see my previous post for the link

    Thanks for the tip ;)

I would advise anyone considering this card to have a read through this thread (which was only started on 6 January 2008 btw), before you apply. You will see that Barclaycard figures quite prominently and not always for the right reasons.

Well, your card could be cloned (if you use a cash machine that a fraudster has tampered with or allow the card out of your sight in shops, restaurants etc.) but using a credit card to withdraw cash from ATMs is a bad idea anyway. This a very expensive way to
    borrow money.

There's risk attached to everything but, in general, credit cards are the safest way to purchase goods/services. (If you carry cash, it could be nicked. If you use cheques, they could get altered.)

This is not a best balance transfer question. If you would like to explore this subject further, please post again on the main credit card board. You'll get lots of replies there.

  • Hi,

This is a warning to anyone who has paid the 3% to have their 0% interest on a balance trf on a credit card.

I've just done this with a Citi/Shell card and spent £2,500 on other purchses this month on the same card = total balance at end month c£4,500. Whan I called to pay off the said £2,500 from the purchases this month I was told this was not possible and what I would actually be paying off would be the £2k balanace transfer + £500 from the purchases and would accre interest on the remaining purchase balance.

Is this obvious to everyone or have I been utterly stupid? I thought that by paying the 3% trf fee on the balance transfer (£60) this would then be protected for the length of the 0% balance transfer (9 months) regardless of other purchases on the card?

Please let me know if this is well known and I've been stupid or whther this is a blatant breach or trading standards etc?

    Thanks all.

It's well known on this board, but there are many that fall for this trap.

It is advised to NEVER use a BT card for purchases. It will probably be in their T&C what the order of payments will be. I would advise you to look for another 0% deal and do another BT if possible.

  • Hi there,
not sure if I'm in the right place here but I've just read one of the many fantastic articles and it's recommended for me that I transfer my bank overdraft onto a 0% credit card. How do I go about that? Or have i completely missed that on the article? The overdraft gets me so down every month if I could just be clear of that I could deal with it being on a credit card for some reason. I already have a Halifax one card with £1800 on it would it be best to put it all on there? (The limit is enough for this).
    Thanks for anyones advice.

Need to know the following please. Never seen this question asked before.

Would it be possible to do a balance transfer from my credit card to my partners credit card?

I have some credit card debt that my partner is willing to pay on his new abbey credit card by doing the balance transfer to take advantage of the 0% for 6 months. so does anyone know if the banks normally accept that?
  • Hello

I was hoping somebody might be able to give me some advice. I am an official numpty with credit cards, and have read through the pages on this web site, but still struggling a little.

What I would like to do, is move £800 from my existing credit card with HSBC which I think has an APR of around 17% to a better deal. This card is purely going to be for balance transfer, not for any purchases, and to pay off more than the minimum per month. I currently receive a monthly charges on the amount outstanding.

What I am trying to determine is whether 0% p.a on balance transfer means I will pay 0% interest on my balance transfer for the designated period?

Could you also alert me to any hidden nasties I should look out for when looking around for this kind of deal please?

Thanks in advance for any advice I might receive.
