I'm assuming I'll have to put this onto two balance transfer cards as it's so high, but don't know how long to leave it between applying for different cards? Any advice welcomed please!!!
'Sounds like a sensible, money-saving plan, but what's convinced you that two balance transfer cards are needed?
What cards do you have at the mo and which purchases card is involved?People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
I guess I was just assuming I wouldn't be able to transfer that much onto one card?
I've got a Lloyds credit card at the moment which has a £4000 limit, and was hoping to put as much of that as possible on to a balance transfer, maybe a Virgin card or the Barclaycard Platinum?0 -

Of these two cards, Virgin and Barclaycard, I would say Virgin is your best bet
It's not an exact science of course but, judging from the posts to this thread, you're more likely to get a generous credit limit with Virgin than from Barclaycard.
That said, none of us knows in advance what credit limt we'll be handed. Much depends on your existing credit - available and used - in relation to your annual income.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
To maximise the 0% period, 15 months is currently available to new customers from Virgin. A 2.98% BT fee applies.
Barclaycard currently turns away some 50% of applicants and credit limits tend to be low.
I would advise anyone considering this card to have a read through this thread. You will see that Barclaycard figures quite prominently and not always for the right reasons :rolleyes:People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -

My husband applied online for an Abbey Zero card on 11 May, and so far we have heard nothing from them. (As he's the one with the very good credit rating, he's been the main applicant, whilst I've been sorting out a Notice of Correction on my own credit reports - although we plan to transfer one of my existing balances over as well - and we have no linked financial associations.) Should I try to get in touch? We have a reference number that came up after finishing the application process but there are no clear contact details to follow up to see what's happening.
Many thanks!

January: £170.01/£1700 -

Thanks Yorkshire Boy - looks like we'll just have to wait then. Had we known though that online applications would take so long, he could have done one in-branch.
Fortunately, we're not financially associated, so that shouldn't be the problem.

If you're looking for a totally free BT, the newly-launched Abbey Zero credit card offers interest-free balance transfers for 6 months with no handling charges. To qualify, BTs must be made within one month of account opening.
Note: online applicants have reported the sort of delays we've come to expect from Santander. If in a hurry, I would apply in-branch.

Also, I can recommend the Ulster Bank Gold card (not to be confused with the Ulster Rugby card, which is a completely separate animal run by the Bank of Ireland.)
The Ulster Bank cards offer 0% BTs for 6 months from account opening and, once again, there's no handling fee. Issued by the Royal Bank of Scotland, they're well worth considering for balances under £4,000
Note: applications can now be made online, as well as by phone or by post. Once set up, your account can now be managed online too.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0
