  • Hi

i currently have just over £3000 of debt on two credit cards, virgin & Barclays.

I want to transfer the debt on to a 0% balance transfer deal, however i've not decided who to apply to yet. The big question is how can i tell ( if accepted ) how much credit i will be offered?

    Please help:p

Sunlight Driver - I've just applied and been accepted for Barclaycards 0% balance transfer card and I could view my credit limit online after I'd had the acceptance - all done in about 5 minutes. HTH

I applied for one to get the 0% balance transfer, but was declined as I already have a barclaycard (with no balance). The letter said I should contact Barclaycard to see what they can offer on my existing card.

    1) has anyone done this, and what are they likely to offer, and will they improve on the offer if I initially decline?

    2) as they've presumably done a credit check, should I wait 6 months before applying for a different card?

Many thanks to anyone willing to share experiences!

    Hi,

I haven't personally but someone I work with phoned their existing card provider the other day and was offered a 0% deal on balance transfers. You can also look online at your barclaycard account and see what they offer you there under the balance transfer section. Mine currently offers 6.9% life of balance, which although isn't 0% it is still much better than the normal APR you would get on an existing card.

No harm in making a phone call to ask, the worst that can happen is that they say no. It is an existing card so they wont be doing any credit checks.

Sorry i cant help regarding your 2nd question. Common sense would say that as you have been turned down because you are an existing card holder, they would have checked this before doing a credit check but i cant say that for sure.
  • Hi all,

I just applied for the Barclaycard 22m 0% on transfers but was given no decision and told they would be in touch within 5 days.

I'm just wondering if it means what it says or if it's just a polite way of declining my application?

    Thanks

It is not necessary, the other day me and my colleague both applied for a card I got my decision immediately but my colleague got the message we wil be in touch in a few days(i do not remember it was 5 or 7 days.) but she was estatic when she got a card with £7000+ limit in the post after about a week.

I think it only means that the application has been referred to an underwriter and they will be in touch after manually checking your application and credit file.

That's what happened to me, I then got a letter saying that as I already had a Barclaycard I couldn't have another one, but that I should call to see what rate my existing card would offer. I got a very helpful response from blitzboy (post 3920 previous page), but haven't done any more as yet.

    Hope this helps

Good morning, just a bot of advice if possible please?

Thinking of buying a car on my long established credit card (owe nothing on itnow ) for £5K.
Then transfering the blance onto 0% interest and paying it back over 6 or 12 months.

Am working full time and have a good credit score.

Looking at the Martain's email this week, it seems Natwest or RBS are the cheapest option with a 1% fee for transferring and repayment in 13 months-which I would set up a DD to do this.

Anyone know of a cheaper card?

We have negotiated the best best deal with the car as humanly possible & no part-x etc, throwing in extras , and the garage don't offer 0% finance on this type of vehicle.

Thanks for any replies in advance

  • Balance transfer limit query

Hi, I am brand new to this site and forum.

I have a Halifax card with £5,300 on it and have been thinking of transferring it or topping up my loan, bit reluctant with the latter as I have made a commitment to clear my debts once and for all this year. My loan ends this May so just left with my card. I have searched on Experian and have a very good score and history intact throughout.

I have looked at BT from various providers including Natwest, who I bank with but not made any definite applications. Some give an assumed credit limit of £1200 obviously could be extended due to individual basis. I have provisonally budgeted for £500 e/m for my payments incl interest and could be clear of card by end of year(fingers crossed!). I'm probably hesitant to apply incase I don't get a limit I require and then it's juggling time and should have stayed where I was. My thoughts that I have get the limit I require from Natwest as bank and loan with them.

Apologies if I sound indecisive(that's me!) as the above is all new to me. One thing for sure is can't wait to get rid of this debt whenever that will be and I've convinced myself not to get there again.

    Thanks in advance
  • As a newcomer to this scene I would like to ask whether there is any savings advantage in taking out a 0% interest credit card for someone who has only ever used a debit card and has no debt ro transfer?
