Hello there,
Some advice please if possible?
I'd decided that I was going to transfer my balance from my NatWest C/C to the Barclaycard 22 months one as shown on MSE as it's 0% interest .... I'm in the process of doing the application, but is it normal for Barclaycard to request sort code and bank account number to complete the process (they say it's to complete credit checks) but I never give out my sort code and account number .... am I just being too cautious or is this common practice?
Many thanks.0 -
Dear All, just need some advice, Martin's site use to have a comaprison guide on if you already have this card?
Can anyone point me in the right direction to this?
I seem to recall you popped in the card you had and then it gave you an alternative?
Also I've got a Barclays Credit Card already but virtually cleard off bar £200.
what are the chances of me clearing that cancelling and then applting for their new long term one?
Think I'm out of time on this but is there something like you cant apply if youve had a similar product in the last 6 months?
Right now I've got:
HSBC
BARCLAYS - to be cancelled in a coupleof days
MBNA locked into a deal fora remaining 7months
HALIFAX locked into a deal for remaining 7months
Account with RBS
Any ideas on what would be next best balance transfer card for me?
Thank you
Peace:)

Don't worry (so long as its the genuine Barclaycard site and is secure) it's perfectly normal. Just one of the internal credit scoring checks they do.
On their own the details are not worth that much anyway.
Don't forget that everytime you've written a cheque (remember those?) you've given someone these details and more, probably without thinking - i.e. your sort code, account number, and a complete and accurate specimen signature.
Good luck with the BT!0 -

Correct think you have to wait 6 months for reapplying for a new one.

MBNA locked into a deal fora remaining 7months
HALIFAX locked into a deal for remaining 7months

Suggest Natwest Platinum or Virgin BT card (as you can have more than one from the MBNA stable).
Thank you
Peace:)

Hi all,
I just applied for the Barclaycard 22m 0% on transfers but was given no decision and told they would be in touch within 5 days.
I'm just wondering if it means what it says or if it's just a polite way of declining my application?
Thanks0 -
Hi Guys - Thanks for having me!
I've been struggling to pay everything off for over a year now. I started off pretty steep when I moved back to the UK from a few years abroad in Gibraltar. I ran up around £5.5k of debt in the first year and then sailed on through bouncing from card to card. Very daft, I know. We'll put that down to juvenile naivety!
It's pretty different here and money managing was just words I heard everyone else using, until I finally uttered the dreaded words myself last year!
I've just this second cleared my CapitalOne @ 16.9% ( YAY! :T ), which is a load off. Incidentally, I spotted this on the CapitalOne statement! This month's interest is based on the following simple annual rates: Your interest rates: Standard Purchase: 30.340% Standard Cash Withdrawal: 30.340% Standard Balance Transfer: 30.340%
Wow. Glad it's gone to be honest!
I also have a Barclaycard Platinum Simplicity with £1850' worth of debt on it. _pale_ I had it at £2k for a while (max limit) and left it whilst I focussed on the CapitalOne card.
I started to make some small payments before Christmas but having changed my job (Was contracting and lost the contract), I am earning much less (I've gone from £35,131 pa to £24,960 pa [Gross] which I think you'll agree is a massive hit!) I will find that £1.85k very difficult to clear indeed. I was considering balance transferring it, but even having read through the guides relentlessly, I am still at a loss as to how it all works!
But I will plod on, needs must! I really only stopped by to say thank you to the community and thank you to Martin and the teams behind MSE. Not possible without all of you.
Keep it up and the banks will own us one day, I'm sure of it!0 -
Hi,
I have a question for the experienced MSE's out there about spending on a card with a promotional balance transfer, just to make sure my understanding of the scenario is correct.
Just before Christmas I transferred a balance from one card to another on a 12 month 0% promotional rate. Throughout December I continued to use the card for standard purchases, which has an interest rate of 17.9%. There was no outstanding balance on this card before then as I pay it off in full at the end of the period.
At the end of the month, and before the Payment Due By date on the December statement, I then paid off all the new spending as normal plus a sizeable wedge against the balance transfer amount.
Given the change in the law regarding how payments are apportioned these days, i.e. it goes to pay off the amount with the highest rate of interest first, bearing in mind that the amount I paid covered all new spending plus a significant extra, how much interest should the Bank have charged on the next statement?
Your views and a clear understanding of this would be appreciated as it may have a significant bearing on many others in the same position as myself.
I thank you in advance for any legally correct advice you may give.0 -
unsure where to post this. basically i have a loan at a credit union (northern ireland) with a 4.5k balance approx. i have a credit card with a 4.5k limit with only a £700 balance. would it be possible somehow to transfer a 'credit card balance' to a new card for like £5k, pay off the credit union loan and thereby avoid interest for the duration of the interest free period of the new card?
thanks0
