Hey Y'all
Wondered if I could pick your brains.
I have 2 credit Cards a Virgin & Santander.
I only got the Santander to Transfer the balance from my Virgin, after their 0% deal ended. Unfortunately I must have not read the IE page carefully enough & Santander didn't give me enough credit to clear the Virgin Balance.
I only needed around £6000 & they had given me £4300.
So I had to transfer just that amount.
I waited as they said they may be able to raise the limit after 3 months. I rang up after the 3 months and they said that they were not raising any limits at all at the moment. Stuffed:mad:
So What I need is a credit card that will offer me at least £6000 credit limit.
My income shouldn't be an issue as a few years back i had an Egg card with £10,000 on it with no problem at all.
However I only closed the Egg card just under year ago, & they won't let you have another till after a year since your last had one.
So any advice would be gratefully received.
Thanks E0 -
Martin's advice is to transfer what you can. You'll still save money (See Martin's *Credit Card Limit: didn't get what you wanted?* article.)The-Equalizer wrote: »I have 2 credit Cards a Virgin & Santander. Once you've activated a new CC, the lender has little incentive to increase your limit. Even if your limit had been raised, it's unlikely you would have been offered more than £500 extra during the 0% promotion period. Waiting three months, on the basis of a nod and a wink from a member of staff, was ill-advised, as I think you now realise.I waited as they said they may be able to raise the limit after 3 months. It's not an exact science of course but, judging from feedback here, you're more likely to get a generous credit limit with Egg & Virgin/MBNA than some providers I could name. Unfortunately, neither of these is an option at the mo.The-Equalizer wrote: »What I need is a credit card that will offer me at least £6000 credit limit. That said, none of us knows in advance the credit limit we'll be handed. Lenders do not disclose the criteria they use to decide. The only way to find out for certain is to apply.
To help you further, we would need to know which cards - apart from Virgin, Santander and Egg obviously - you have at the mo or have held recently, also who you bank with.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
Hey Moggles
Thanks for your reply.
I Only Have the Virgin & Santander at the Moment.
The Egg Card I had around 3 or 4 years ago, but left it dormant for a year forgetting to cancel it till End of March last year. So i have got to wait till end of March before I apply.
(I was thinking about maybe my Wife applying for the Egg Card?) Only thing is thats its my income that matters.
Previous cards were the Egg Card(closed last year) & capitol One Visa, (that was probably closed around 4 to 5 years ago).
I recently aplied for a Tesco Credit card online, the application was approved, but the credit limit too low again so I did not proceed with the application.
I don't think i have had any previous cards than mentioned.
Thanks again
E
P.S. on a seperate note, why cant i get my avatar uploaded. it fits the required spec. correct size/pixels etc0 -
That's a pity. Had you transferred the maximum possible to Santander, ditto to Tesco, I suspect your problem would be more or less solved by now.The-Equalizer wrote: »I only have the Virgin & Santander at the Moment. To maximise the 0% period, 13 months is currently available to new customers from Halifax on BTs made in the first 90 days. There's a 3% BT fee. The minimum monthly payment is just 1% of the balance shifted

Hi everyone, this is my first post to this site.
Just a quick quiery, has anybody had experience with applying for a Virgin credit card?
I applied online a few days ago now but have not heard anything from them yet.
Just getting a little impatient I think! I am finally getting my finances sorted, I have paid my loan off and this is the last bit of debt to get rid of.
I am wanting to transfer the balance from my HSBC credit card (about £850) to take advantage of the 0% for 16 months.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.0 -
Most credit decisions are computerised and Virgin gives instant decisions and credit limits to online and telephone applicants, provided that your identity, available credit and so on can be verified electronically via the credit reference agencies, which in turn collate data from public records such as the electoral register.liketosavemoney wrote: »I applied online a few days ago, but have not heard anything from Virgin yet. May I ask what message you had on completing your application?People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0
