I have a debit card which is used for receiving salary. I calculate the total amount of bank service charge and it's really high, close to almost 12%. It's a bit painful on my budget. Is there any that offers lower than this?

This is not a best balance transfer question.

oh and I applied online with Abbey. Just read an article about only applying over the phone or in a branch.
Do I go back to them via telephone or accept they rejected me and move on?!

You can appeal against their decision if you're happy to provide them with all sorts of financial details. There's no guarantee they'd change their mind even if you do.

I've no recent experience of Abbey but, from feedback here, it's best to apply in branch. Online applications are often subject to long delays, apparently

That said, your chances of acceptance are the same, whichever route you take.

  • Hi,

Due to having some extra work, I will be able to pay off my Virgin card, which I used for BT only, sooner than the interest free period ends.

I don't know whether I should then get rid of the card or keep it?? I have a Nat West Master Card which I use when I need to, always paying the balance each month. I have no other credit cards or debts other than my mortgage.

    Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Precious Thing.

It's worth remembering that Virgin has a reputation for regular, follow-on offers, once your balance is paid off in full. This provider will even waive BT fees sometimes, if you're prepared to negotiate over the phone. I've had offers as good or better than the introductory deals now and again.

It's always best to have a back-up card, IMO ;)

  • Help! first time on here. Looking to do BT, and I remember seeing a grid on the site showing which banks are related to each other so that I can apply for a card which isn't associated whith cards I already have. Any idea where I can find this as I've not been able to find it again.

I to had a mortgage with N&P until Abbey ( boo ) took over in 1995.

    N&P were very decent.
