hope this is the right place to ask newbie here
want to do a bt from creditcard ( virgin ) having
enjoyed there 15 months 0% time to switch
only noticed that virgin dont allow bt from mbna
cards and wondered if all mbna cards are the same
not allowing bt to or from mbna cards

if so need to get non mbna card to do a bt could anyone
help with witch cards are non mbna ( or have i got this wrong)

If you mean that you can't transfer mbna to mbna then is that not normal.You need to get a card of a different origin . I did a BT from my Virgin MBNA card to a Paypal one ( or a Halifax ..can't recall which)

MBNA allow Super Balance Transfers, so just ask them to transfer the funds to your bank account and pay off the other MBNA card from there.

Molly is right that you can't transfer balances between cards from the same family.
NickX is right that you can get around with with MBNA. They are fairly unique in allowing what we call a "super balance transfer". This means you can pay the money straight into your current account - as if to pay off an overdraft, for example. You could then use your current account to pay the Virgin card. So you would be able to use another MBNA card to clear the Virgin card.

However, have you applied for the MBNA card? If so, then fine - do the above.
If not, you might be better off applying for a card from a different family as you already have an MBNA card in the form of Virgin. A different family may be more willing to give you a decent limit.
Looking at http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cards/balance-transfer-credit-cards#best you could go for Barclaycard (though many on these forums have had poor experiences and credit limits), Tesco or Egg.

You've done well to knock a third off your balance with Virgin. All the best for keeping it going.

If you've already got your balance on Virgin credit card (with an expiring 0% offer), you may not be able to get another promotional 0% deal with MBNA anyway - as you're not a new MBNA customer.

If you can - then do what NickX and JimmyTheWig say and you can use the transfer to a current account option.

Or you might have to just get a different issued credit card, like Egg, Tesco, HSBC, Post Office, HBOS, Barclaycard (if you've got a v. good credit rating)...

Good luck with it though, I've just read this story which says 0% balance transfers are disappearing (http://www.credit-card-comparison-online.co.uk/news/virgin-balance-transfer-news.html) except for Virgin.

Made me smile that we are waiting for the "January transfer window".

As to your first point, you would still be classed as a new customer in terms of getting an MBNA 0% deal. Whether you would get the credit limit you want (due to existing MBNA family cards and balances) is another question.

That said, reporters have been predicting the end of 0% BTs ever since they first appeared and there's still no shortage of offers available.

Judging from posts to this thread, if there's a balance on your Virgin card, particularly if it's still charged at 0%, you may be turned down or handed a lowish credit limit by MBNA.

(If there were no balance on your existing card, this lender will sometimes switch your credit around to give you a higher limit on the new card, so MBNA cards could be useful in the future )
