I agree, personally feel "indefinite" makes it a bit clearer.

I found my original PIP letter in my Google photos and it does indeed say it's an 'ongoing' award from April 2018. So it's just the wording that has changed.

I really had it in my mind that I would need to be reassessed in 2028, but it seems that the 'indefinite' wording means a 'light touch' review, so just three tickboxes...?

Yes, the original wording contained no end date, but rather stated the award was ongoing. The current letters confirming benefit entitlement use the term indefinite for the length of the award. Two words meaning the same thing - the important fact is that there is no end date set for the award so if a reassessment of the award fails to take place the award (payments) does not end.

It has always been DWPs policy to review or take another look at indefinite/ongoing awards every 10 years just to ensure nothing has changed, hence the review date at around 10 years. The current 'light touch' review form simply asks if there have been any changes together with confirming personal details such as name, address and contact details have not changed.

Indefinite is a much better word to use, as you say it doesn't have an end date, but ongoing can have an end date, EG the roadworks are currently ongoing but are due to finish at the end of July.

Regarding 'light touch' reviews for those on 'indefinite' awards, does anyone ever lose their entitlement to PIP simply by returning the light touch review AR2 form and only ticking the three 'no change' options in questions 13, 14 and 15? Obviously apart from confirming personal details.

I always had an issue with the use of "indefinite" for award periods.

Whilst it does describe the award correctly I found that many people asking for advice thought that it meant "infinite"; a similar word but with a totally different meaning.
They were usually questioning why they had to have a review when they thought that they had a lifetime award.

TBH I also used to use "ongoing" to describe such awards, (eg ESA awards), as in 'ongoing until something changes'
