Casting to Chromecast from YouTube broken?

I occasionally cast from my Android phone to a Chromecast plugged into my TV. Casting a live feed from the YouTube app didn't work for me last night (or this morning). The stream just repeats the same ~20 second loop.

Other streaming apps (iPlayer, Now) all seem good. All on the same Wifi with good signal strength. Any suggestions?

No direct answer I'm afraid but I had a Chromecast from very early on and over the years have experienced similar problems with a variety of apps. Usually they are fixed by updates but sometimes that takes many weeks. BBC iPlayer was very bad in this respect early on and took months.

I suspect it is no longer widely used so a lower priority for developers to keep up to date.

Chromecast Audio was great but has been discontinued. Secondhand ones sell on eBay for more that double the last new price! Strange world….

YouTube is baked into my TV so there's a workaround. But searching for what I want using the on screen keyboard is painful. So much easier to hand-off from my phone.

I still have my Chromecast Audio! Great wee device.

Might be a problem with the Android YouTube app, can you cast YouTube content from a Chrome browser on another device?

As @Undervalued says, Chromecast is just about still being supported by Google but the writing is on the wall.

Another Chromecast Audio fan here, still in use but have noticed it sits on standby being rather hot - no longer have it plugged in at all times. Bluetooth to TV soundbar is a good alternative.

EDIT : Just might help - make sure that your Google Home app on your Android phone is up-to-date, this will be the channel that will make any firmware updates to the Chromecast.

What TV? If it's running Fire TV then the (not much use for anything else) Fire TV app has a keyboard option, about the only thing I've used it for is YouTube searching and the odd account setup.

Do other TV OSs have similar?

Good shout @flaneurs_lobster. Casting from Chrome works fine (and casting from YouTube within Chrome - which lists a subset of my devices - is good too). All apps and bios up to date, so looks like the YouTube Android app is borked for now.

It's a Samsung TV by the way. I have a bluetooth keyboard paired, but it's in another room.
