Flight refund on credit card after job loss

Hi,

My wife and I were due to fly to Corsica on 28th June with easy jet and Air Corsica. I have just lost my job and was wondering if i can claim the flight costs back on our credit card?

    On what basis?

Section 75 cover is where the provider has not provided the service you have paid for.

It is not there to pay up for a change of mind because of your circumstances.

    In a word NO.

You would only have any claim if the airline cancelled the flight.

Did you ins policy have any of this sort of cover?

As above, your credit card wouldn't be on the hook for this - your travel insurer might be, if policy coverage includes changed financial circumstances, or do you have any sort of payment protection insurance that would step in to cover card repayments (if that's the concern)?

If you have paid for accommodation etc too can't you simply take the holiday?

So sorry to hear that you’ve lost your job. This is exactly the kind of scenario Travel Insurance is for… did you take out insurance when booking the flights/accommodation? Do you have any travel insurance cover with a packaged bank account or similar?

You have no reason to be able to claim the costs back on your credit card/S75 as this will be seen as a decision on your part not to travel. Neither the airlines nor your credit card provider have any responsibility in that decision…. The flights are still available for you to take, but you may choose not to do so and forfeit the costs. You may be able to claim back the Air Passenger Duty but are not due a refund of the fare or any additional charges for seating, luggage etc in this situation.

Possibly because unless it’s all inclusive holidays tend to involve extra expenditure on top of the accommodation and flights?

Perhaps with self catering and careful budgeting the delta could minimal?

Depending on the reason you lost your job most travel insurance will cover it if its was involuntary and not due to gross misconduct (which is basically considered voluntary)

If you live in London then going may well be cheaper than staying at home, though with job hunting being remote may not be ideal. In the rest of the UK then Corsica is likely to be more expensive given its a relatively small island.

The only exception to "claiming on the credit card" would be if you had a credit card that included "free" travel insurance (eg certain AmEx, historically the NW Black card etc) but then you are really claiming on the insurance not the card itself.

I checked my travel insurance policy too – some do cover involuntary job loss if you bought it with the booking. If you rebook later, I have used https://travelbusinessclass.com for flexible premium flights and saved a lot. It might help if you plan a future trip at a better time. For now, check your policy details.

I'd check the post dates - that point was already more than adequately covered when the thread was last active three months ago, and OP hasn't been back since the day it was started...
