Haggling with Plusnet as my contract is coming to an end in Oct 2026

Never used Zen myself but yep, simple as can be.

Yes, using the same SSID and password for whatever wireless router you have will make all devices just reconnect again with no issue. I have done this for years. I always use my own custom SSID and password as it is easier to remember than any of the ones pre set into a router.

Thanks to all who confirmed changing SSID & password was straightforward.
In the end, I did the same as I did a few weeks ago and managed to reconnect everything without a hitch.
Also got my Digital Voice service working yesterday with existing (very old!) DECT handsets spread around sprawling bungalow. Husband very happy as he says calls are clearer & he struggles a bit with smartphone.2 -
I had/am having bad experiences with Plusnet with poor service and have been given wrong information.
I rang Plusnet in May to check when I would need to change from landline and broadband package. I was told when my contract ended in November 2026 and I would be contacted in August, so I would have 3 months notice.
In June I got what I assumed were marketing emails inviting me to move to EE or loose my landline and stay with Plusnet. I ignored them, until at the end of June I got an email saying I would be moved to EE, (at increased cost).
I contacted Plusnet and was told I did have to decide now, in June, not in November and it was due to EE making changes so no apology from Plusnet.
I found a cheaper supplier for what I wanted, giffgaff, broadband only. I checked with Plusnet to find out if I would have to pay a cancellation/early exit fee and was told not. I went ahead with booking the changeover and Plusnet are now charging an early exit fee, despite it being Plusnet which is breaking the contract early. I am very disappointed and consider it dreadful service by Plusnet, who used to be brilliant.

Any date you were given by Plusnet as to when they were exiting telephony and becoming broadband was only ever advisory, the fact you knew about it and asked proves it’s not a surprise, the exact date is irrelevant because of the mitigation they have put in place …..as your contract ends in November, moving to EE (which doesn’t cost any more than Plusnet ) will also have a contract (minimum term) expiry in November, so no change to price or minimum term , not taking the EE offer when nothing changes negates any issues you may think you have .
You have chosen to go with Giffgaff who don’t include telephony ,and you expecting PN to let you leave penalty free when you could have broadband only from Plusnet (and it’s cheaper than your existing Plusnet price for broadband and phone ) is unjustified ….understandably Plusnet think you are trying it on and are going to raise early termination charges if you join Giffgaff for something PN can supply and do it before November.
FWIW , 4 months of ETC will not be a huge amount, so basically it’s your choice , as clearly you are not bothered about telephony (as you joined Giffgaff) if the 4 months etc are too much to bare , stay with PN on a broadband only basis , and in November join Giffgaff, you can’t argue the phone is important , as it clearly isn’t .

What do you guys prefer in terms of contract length - 18 months or 24 months?
Plusnet offer lower prices now for 24 month contracts, and then they go up each year due to inflation. For instance, if I were to stay on my current speed I would be able to get the following as of right now:
18-month deal:
- Full Fibre 145 (At renewal - £28.99 a month, from March 2027 - £32.99)
24-month deal:
- Full Fibre 145 (At renewal - £26.99 a month, from March 2027 - £30.99, from March 2028 - £34.99)
I have also done a 24-month side-by-side comparison in a spreadsheet with a hypothetical monthly price at renewal from month 19. You can see that the 24 month deal averages less as well as the total cost when compared like-for-like over the 18 and 24 month period. However, it should be noted that there will be overlap as the renewal periods are at different points within the year, so a comparison over a 6-year period would probably be the best indicator (assuming I renew the 18-month contract 4 times, or the 24-month contract 3 times), but I figured this could also be a little inaccurate as there is more margin for error the longer the period accounted for.
Thoughts on this and which you generally prefer (18 months vs 24 months).
Are 18 month deals better to protect oneself from annual price hikes?
Happy for the community and the MSE team to give this some thought.

Ideally it maybe better if your contract date is as close to March as possible?
You will only pay the increase for 1 month but that assumes you can get a better deal next time.
Currently EE have 900MB for £25.29 with increases of £29.99 and £33.99. I have found Plusnet easy to deal with
after finding better deals online. Mines October and undecided on whether to stick with Plusnet on the 900MB
or jump across to EE and get the 1600MB?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Just to update from my previous posts in this thread. They never fixed the fault whereby I couldn't actually act on the renewal offer that flashed up in my online account but I took a screenshot just in case . So with a month or so to go for current contract I had to phone them, their first offer was a pound a month more than the actual offer I got within the account - when I told them they said "I believe you" then offered to match it - I said I had a screenshot to prove it if they wanted to see it !
I can't get FTTP yet but what I am paying now is pretty close to a new customer (without the new charge for the router!) barring any vouchers etc so Ok with settlement. As PN service been Ok when I've phoned before - at least you can get through to them. We'll see if my private Close ever eventually gets full fibre then my choices may be wider by time of renewal.
