Haggling with Plusnet as my contract is coming to an end in Oct 2026

Hi there,

My contract is due for renewal in October 2026 and I received an email this week giving me the following options:

  • Upgrade to a faster speed - Go even faster and save up to £2.00 a month
  • Renew my package - Same great speed and save up to £5.00 a month

I'm currently on a Full Fibre 145 and pay £32.99 a month and I have been given the following 24-month contract options:

  • Full Fibre 145 (At renewal - £27.99 a month, from March 2027 - £31.99, from March 2028 - £35.99)
  • Full Fibre 300 (At renewal - £30.99 a month, from March 2027 - £34.99, from March 2028 - £38.99)
  • Full Fibre 500 (At renewal - £32.99 a month, from March 2027 - £36.99, from March 2028 - £40.99)
  • Full Fibre 900 (At renewal - £31.99 a month, from March 2027 - £35.99, from March 2028 - £39.99)

I would prefer to remain on Full Fibre 145 for now and bring my cost down, especially as my employment contract will be ending this month (I just need to be making smart decisions and would appreciate advice on how best to achieve the lowest cost at Full Fibre 145).

  1. What have other people managed to achieve when haggling with Plusnet and what are your experiences?
  2. How long should I leave it (should I negotiate whilst in contract, or towards the end or after the contract ends?
  3. I know that leaving it until the contract ends will mean I will have a significant price increase when out of contract - where can I find out how much this will cost me?
  4. Will I lose any leverage to negotiate if I leave it until being out of contract?

Thank you in advance.

No experience of plusnet, but in terms of points 3 and 4, is there a reason you wouldn't move to another supplier if you could undercut plusnet with a new customer offer?

Also wondering why you’re haggling with them several months before your contract ends?
My experience of haggling with them is that they tend to take a very take it or leave it approach.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have not could of.

They're all expensive for their respective speeds, as is your current contract. They're trying to sucker you into a new 2 year contract with the promise of a "cheaper" contract. Yes it's cheaper than what you're currently paying but they're around £8 dearer per month than other ISPs as a new customer. In fact Plusnet themselves sell the 145Mbps service to new customers at £21 (current), £25 (March '27) & £29 (March '28).

You current 'promotional discount' and the current full cost price is shown in your Plusnet Online Bill pdf.

Check offers and any cashback / voucher deals around a month before your contract end date.

Plusnet gave me £80 and was cheaper than my old ISP, Talk Talk, for FTTC.

When I was with Plusnet they sent a renewal reminder about a month before the term ended and that's when I got in touch looking to negotiate, which they did.

Those prices do seem pretty high. I'd be looking to move ISP.

Things that are different: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid

Most of these deals and Cashback only applied to new customers. OP is not a new customer.

    Thanks for everyone's input.

The reason for remaining with Plusnet is to keep things simple and reduce impact. I have been happy with the service and reliability to date and would like to retain my current setup so I don't have to reconfigure multiple devices.

If I can negotiate a better deal such as persuading them to match the new customer deal or throw in an added incentive such as a gift reward card, that would be a more attractive offer.

Has anyone ever renewed with Plusnet and managed to secure the same offer as a new customer?

Funnily enough my contract is up in Sept (I can't get FTTP only FTTC in my close) and get a "Time to renew , see your offers" pop up but the relevant page just showed my current set up. Logged in today and they finally acknowledged

Offers and upgrades are unavailable at the moment

We’re working to fix this as fast as we can, so please pop back later.

I did screen capture an earlier offer but I'll wait as contract still has some time to run . I think for me the renewal offer isn't too far off the new customer offer to bother to haggle, which is slightly complicated by a 6 month discount and haven't got my head around a direct comparision to my annual fee over 2 years.

Maybe others have had that issue with the offers page not loading.

"Maybe others have had that issue with the offers page not loading." Sky and Virgin tend to do the same, it's almost as if they'd rather you didn't bother or have to phone up.

Well. the link in my account has reverted to just showing my current package so they haven't fixed it. Not helping me to stay.
