I've bought a contigo and a Stanley mug to take on holiday so hopefully he will get used to them without any pressure....

10/10 for straight talking! 😁 I think we need to remember it is a grown man and not a child we are talking about here, though.
I don't think a special mug of his own is going to end this behaviour, I think there is something about the status symbol of holding onto a coffee cup that he draws comfort from. I used to spend a lot on coffees out (3-4 times a week) but ended the habit for practical reasons: that was my T to P ratio. Its not always easy to find public facilities that I would be happy to use, and I used to dread long journeys with unexpected delays! Cash saving wasn't the primary reason, but it was a happy side effect.
The time I make an exception is on motorway journeys - a stop after 2.5 hours and every 2 hours thereafter is essential for me.
OP - you need to find OH's tipping point. Maybe suggest dispensing with the home brew machine as a means of covering his costs?

Update
We are going on holiday imminently, he will be going on organised walks, I can't, so may well have a few coffees 😊 however, the flask he currently has is too big and heavy for carrying on long walks, so I bought a contigo and a Stanley mug, I was pleasantly surprised at his reaction, when presented as a solution to a problem he didn't know he had. Made him a coffee to take with him when he took car to be MOTd to " see how long it stays hot for", and he just took it. I think he's not very good at organising and planning ahead, so I may have to make coffee for him in advance until it becomes a habit for him, fingers crossed it works....

When I was working(been on long term sick) as a carer was doing split shifts..Costas coffee a convenient haven..but my banking app pointed out I was spending 80..90 pound a month there…these days about £40..a month

Easlity done when a slice of their carrot cake costs nearly £5!! Which makes SM top range "hand finished" cakes look reasonable in comparison.
I have noticed that Costa now does a Spanish latte - has anyone tried it? (Yes, I am aware this site is about saving money - but if someone can tell me it is unbearably sweet you will have saved me from buying out of interest 😁).

Did he enjoy the coffee?
One thing to note: keep the Contigo mug exclusively for coffee or tea; don’t have strong tasting other drinks in it. I made the mistake of making peppermint tea in mine and, for weeks afterwards, everything tasted slightly pepperminty. The plastic lid took up the flavour.

Thanks pip, he's walking currently, I'm in the local independent charity cafe (still 4 quid for large cappuccino) so taking him a takeaway cappuccino in the Stanley mug when I collect him in 20 minutes

The takeaway cappuccino was a success, the lukewarm americano not so much, my fault for trying to salvage old cafetiere coffee!

In my first comment I recommended Stanley Trigger action thermos mugs. They are stainless steel and keep hot drinks hot for 8-9 hours. We have had ours for several years but as we lost one after being runover with a tractor I went online to a well known marketplace to order another. Wow! Won't be ordering any more. They seem to be coming direct from the States now and range in price from £124-£162! I will be investigating other coffee cups. The Stanley mugs and flasks are very good but don't justify the price now in my opinion.

It'll be unbearably sweet.
