Since being made redundant/retiring, my OH has got into bad habits. Although we have a bean to cup proper coffee machine, he has spent around £150 a month on coffees whenever he's out. Driving to see his mum, ( 11/2 hours each way) he'll get a coffee going up and back ( personally I'd need something stronger, but that's another thread!). He volunteers at the hospital every Monday, that's another 3. Doing the food shop as I can't at the moment, that's another 1.... Volunteering two days a week at 2 local theatres, another 3 or 4, you get the picture..... I've suggested he takes coffee with him but he refuses, mainly on the grounds that he doesn't like the taste of takeaway cups and that coffee gets cold in takeaway cups. He says flasks are too awkward if he's driving, which I understand, but, once the money is gone we will be living on my NHS pension, less than a state pension, his state pension and whittling through savings until end of 2029 when I get my state pension. £1800 a year on coffees!! So, lovely OS people, has anyone got any ideas for a reusable cup that doesn't taste of plastic and that keeps coffee hot for an hour or so? Obviously it's not much good trying to take a cappuccino to drink an hour later, but it's driving me mad......

If he's buying coffees on the move, what vessel is he drinking them out of? Is it all china cups?
Also, using a reusable cup doesn't stop him stopping for coffee. Most cafes will let you use your own reusable.
Personally I really like my keep cup, but there are many insulated options - Yeti cups for example.

We have Stanley trigger action thermos mugs. We have had them for a few years but I think they have changed them slightly. They keep coffee hot for hours. They don't taste of plastic and are far superior to thermos cups (freebies) which we have been given by various suppliers over the years. The Stanley mugs came in various sizes and are pretty robust but unfortunately don't survive being run over by a tractor!

I suspect that the not liking the taste of the cup comment is just his way of saying he is not going to stop buying coffee.
A more fundamental issue is the ongoing cost and the impact which he needs to be aware of.
Things that are different: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid9 -
I agree - getting him to use a reusable won't change the fact he wants to buy coffee out.
I wonder if the redundancy/retirement has affected him in some way, and buying coffees out is his way of holding on to something? Did he drink lots of coffee out when he was employed? Perhaps he needs to look for paid, rather than voluntary employment.

Does he have a Waitrose card? Their offer of free (good) coffee might help resolve the problem.

What is his favourite, Costa, Starbucks or another?
Major brands sell their coffee for you to use so if it's the flavour that can be solved
He can buy a branded cup/thermos if it's the feel so that's that problem solved
Sounds like he just isn't interested in changing his ways

I don’t think a coffee cup will solve this. The behaviour is not that of a responsible adult.

To get back to the original question, Contigo coffee cups are the best in my opinion. Absolutely leakproof and keep coffee hot for hours.
