I loved my freebies and I have been a vehement Lidl fan and advertiser to my friends and colleagues since I put my foot through their door last November.

I might call in to Aldi now because a new points system is a joke, not interested to play their game any longer.

Absolute rubbish. Under the old scheme we did 2 shops a month at Lidl and invariably hit the £250 spend to get the £20 off the next £200 spend. With careful timing that £180 net spend would count towards the next month's £250 spend, meaning we only had to spend another £70 in the last week of the month to get £20 off the first spend of the next month. Now I have to spend £500 to get a £5 off voucher. To add insult to injury, the £20 off voucher for April spending failed to appear and, after sending three messages, they have finally given me an £18 off voucher "as a gesture of goodwill" i.e. less than I would have received had the voucher appeared when it should have done. We will be going elsewhere once that voucher is used.

For nine years I drove an extra four miles each week just to shop at Lidl. The 10% Coupon Plus discount was the reason, and I never missed a month. Every month I'd spend the £250 to qualify, then take the discounted shop too - another £150 or so on top. That's roughly £400 a month, reliably.

Now that it's gone, so is my loyalty. That £400 a month is heading to Aldi.

Sorry, Lidl — but this one wasn't my choice.

I don't understand all the I'm off to Aldi comments as the 2 seem to mirror each other price wise.

Lidl is still offering something "free" that Aldi isn't.

Nothing stays the same forever sadly.

I've tried both and I prefer Lidl even without the loyalty app,in fact I shopped there for years without bothering to download the app

Reminds me of when Nationwide Bank (we are a Building Society Honest) took away the free Holiday Insurance from their current account during covid. The reason they said was because very few people we using it! Doh!

Quit lying, it's not even been out for 9 years, let alone the 10% discount.

What Lidl has ovwer Aldi is that there is a scheme, Aldi is clear its not going down that route.

If Lidl has consistent customer feedback and a dip in turnover, it would surprise me if the reward scheme did not become more generous over time.

As for Morrisons - I wouldn't bother. I read that one of their bakeries had to be closed down because it did not meet hygeine measure, photos corroborated this. Personally I think the store manager should be held to account for this, it could have easily lead to contagion through the food chain.

No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.

    I’m pleased with the change.
The closest Lidl is 40 miles away and we go there less than once a month. Under the old scheme I never reached the threshold to get the rewards when the spending target reset each month. I deleted the app and gave up.

I have just signed up again. I might just get a few pounds off before the two year points expiry. This suits me much better.

New rewards are rubbish. Live alone, spend around £80 per month on groceries. Was regularly getting 1 free bakery item and 1 free veg per month. Now I will get points worth 80p. No way I can get the same reward as before for that. Might as well stop going to Lidl, there are shops (Aldi, Iceland etc) closer to me (don't drive so no reason to walk to a shop further away now). There's nothing exclusive to Lidl I can't do without.
