I can't speak for anyone else but d start by looking at your IHD.

If it's a Geo Trio or one of the common Chameleon models, you should be able to find a chart of electricity use per hour for today. Could you find that screen and share a photo of it? It's unlikely to have any personal info in it.

If you could also share a photo of your consumer unit (fuse box) with the lid open so we can see all the breakers and their labels, it could help us.

Start by doing the 'Everything Off' test at the Consumer Unit for an hour or two, as previously described, and make sure there's precisely zero change in the readings. That's the basic starting point and a really easy check.

If that's all OK you can start looking at individual circuits to find the culprits, if any. Check whether you have a positive pressure unit or two in the loft running 24/7.

Buy with the relatively high heat losses because no room has another room between it and the stars above, there may be no culprit other than a wholly inappropriate panel heating system.

in the first post you mentioned it was a Scandi house. Does this mean it is super insulated? If so, what is the EPC?

  • See photos of (Both Fuse Boxes) (Ps I am the son helping my parents so I didnt actually know we had two fuse boxes) Please see below.

Ok, it looks like your IHD isn't close enough to the smart meter and it's not connecting. It uses ZigBee which is different to WiFi but has similar propagation problems.

Can you move it to be closer? Once it connects you should see a "signal strength" icon (a bit like on a mobile phone) in the top left of the screen.

The IHD is a Chameleon model, branded for UW. It should be some help once it connects and can get some data from the meter.

What is the "PUMP"? Pond pump, drainage pump, something else?

Your electric water heating could be using 3-8kWh per day if functioning normally, it could be using a lot more of stuck on.

If it is a simple MVHR system then it would only be drawing probably 500W, or less, so a 5A breaker would be more than adequate. The 16A breaker suggests it may have a heating/cooling function. Or perhaps the installer were short of the right switch?

Of those photos, the "377 watts" in the first one is quite interesting.

377 watts is on the higher side for a smaller household on a sunny April afternoon. If that background load is maintained 24/7/365 it would be 9kWh a day, 270kWh a month, 3300kWh a year.

Is there something running that shouldn't be?

However, that doesn't help us much in understanding how you have already used 17kWh today (in 16 hours), 730kWh this month (32 a day) or 5303 this year (47kWh a day, on average).

If this was my house, I'd try turning off the entire "storage heater" consumer unit at the main switch on the left and see if this helps.

Something, somewhere has got to be using a lot of heat.

Question - is there any possibility of a leaking hot water pipe? A tap that doesn't quite turn off, an overflow that spurts steaming water now and again, a piece of path or garden that never has frost on it?

(We've had hot water leaks on this forum before.)
