…and while we're at it, how does Click to Pay differ from Payit, which NatWest/RBS are punting at me at the moment.

    Same/different?

PayIt uses Open Banking. I can use it to send you a link (or QR Code) from my banking app that takes you to your banking app to make an ad hoc payment to me. Works well when I have tried it, quick and easy with no need to share my details.

Click to Pay seems that it will be card based and for paying vendors. Can't see the point personally.

To be honest it seems pretty good

Online, when you come to pay, you select the 'click to pay' icon. The website then sends you a text to your mobile(*) with a code which you enter and you can then see all your CTP cards and choose which one to use

In my opinion better than the alternative i.e on the website to entering your card number expiry date CVV etc

    (*) or email.address

So you need to enter (as a bare minimum) your email address then when you click 'Click to Pay' the CtoP system uses email address to lookup your mobile number so it can send an OTC?

As @deinoflex says this is a problem, I may have a different email address registered with each card provider but I most certainly make a lot of use of other email addresses when shopping, including (occasionally) completely disposable ones.

Presumably the list of CtoP enabled cards appears on the online device otherwise we are introducing functionality that would need a smartphone and I rather think that this is being avoided deliberately?

So a system that might be of use if you use a single email address for everything, have a couple of cards and find filling in card details a chore.

I got a similar email from LLoyds a couple of days ago……. I did the same as you. Opted out immediately!

I’ve also opted out. My only regular use of Halifax debit card was £500 pm towards my credit card bill, or occasional deposit to savings account to qualify for the £5 monthly reward.
    Now it’s redundant🥲

Received an e-mail from Lloyds, yesterday, about this Click to Pay.

    No thanks, opted out.

I've also opted out as I have similar concerns over security and data protection. I personally would rather there be a bit of friction when I spend online to make it ever so slightly harder for my details to be used fraudulently.
