Broadband changing provider
Morning all. I hope you're doing well. This is probably going to be a dim question, but I'm a bit confused.
I've been with TalkTalk for ages for my Broadband and landline. I'm not particularly unhappy with them although when something goes wrong its really really difficult to get hold of anyone to help me.
I'm paying £26.00 a month for their Fibre 35 package which gives me a landline and
Broadband speeds: 36.00 Mbps and 37.00 Mbps with a minimum guaranteed speed of 35.00 Mbps, a maximum speed of 37.00 Mbps and upload speed of 7.00 Mbps.
I've been looking around to see if I can get this any cheaper elsewhere but I cant understand what the speeds on offer elsewhere mean and how they equate to what I'm getting at the moment (sorry again for my dimness)
I never use my landline so I'm not sure if I need to pay for that?
Can anyone help please?
Thanks
Mary

Try either of these comparison websites to see what's available, some BB suppliers have the option of a landline, some don't have one full stop and some (like Sky) give you one regardless. If you don't need it then it can save you money.
Is the 37Mbps speed you get now enough for your needs?
Edit: forgot the links :(

Thanks @JSmithy45AD !
yes what i have now seems fine for me. I guess it'd be nice if it could be a bit quicker sometimes but i'm not stressed about it !Living in beautiful Wales and loving it.0 -
As you'll see with the two sites I gave you, it's actually quite difficult to get such a low speed nowadays as everything is moving to fast fibre rather than the copper pair you seem to be on and can be much more expensive. I think you'll at least double your speed but the price isn't awfully far out from your £26 pcm so maybe the devil you know if you're happy enough (for now at least).

TT "Fibre 35" may be upgradable to their faster "Fibre 65" offering, both FTTC? Whether beneficial or not is another thing. Especially if TT want more money for it as the guaranteed minimum is 35Mbit/s so unlikely to exceed 40Mbit/s or so. FWIW They only offer their Fibre 65 to me now at £26 also and I moved to Plusnet from them last month on "Fibre 74" with the same speed as TT 35 gave me - no change in rate at all.
OP should check the offers on their account and/or ask on the Talk Talk Community forum.
FTTC and landline prices from others is similar (assuming the April price rise has been factored in already — otherwise that £26 will become £30).
TT will offer FTTC if / when it's available at the OPs address via BT Openreach or their other partners. Faster Fibre is nowhere near universally available… even if new build houses at the bottom of the village lane I live in have it now, there's no dates for the rest of us here to get it.

Thank you! @JSmithy45AD how can I find out if my local countryside BT openreach telephone/internet wiring is compatible with super fast speeds?

Ah Ha! Thank you @Rodders53 thats what I wondered. How do I find out if I can purchase super speedy internet and then actually GET super speedy internet!! Talktalk customer service is great once you can get hold of them, but its really difficult to get hold of them, hence me thinking about moving

Use either of the two links I gave you, that's your best starting point at the least.

The TT Community Forum is very useful with other users / experts there … and the TT staff (OCEs) answer Mon-Fri office hours also can help. Ensure your profile is set up with your details inc phone number and stuff so the STAFF (only) can access account details.
I'd not trust the comparison sites further than I can chuck em (even our own MSE one Compare Broadband Deals April 2026 | Cheap Broadband Finder ) as they offer deals one just cannot get. (e.g FTTP at my address and 3G data sim when the first is unavailable and the second mobile phone signal is poor).
The BT Wholesale broadband checker will tell you if FTTC / SOGEA or FTTP is available at your address…
BT Broadband and a (albeit slightly optimistic) estimate of the speeds you should get.I suspect that TT will be as good as any other for you, but you might blag a couple of quid per month saving via another provider and a cashback-type voucher if lucky to sweeten the deal. (I am waiting delivery of a £80 prepaid card from Plusnet as I write this).

Thank you @JSmithy45AD and @Rodders53. I'm really greatful for your help and advice. I'll start with Talktalk community.

I thought TT was getting out of broadband supplying ,we have been switched to UW by TT with no choice but all seems ok ,will see when it goes wrong but doubt it could be worse than speaking to TT in India or some place similar.
