Investing in uncertain times and diversifying

While there's undoubtedly a lot of geopolitical uncertainty, the impact on markets hasn't been particularly pronounced - the March dip was largely in single figures and so didn't even qualify as a correction, never mind a crash, and both of these should be expected on multiple occasions throughout usual investment timescales, so if you were spooked by relatively minor volatility then this would seem to confirm the point that you were invested above your risk tolerance.

Venture Capital is a high risk investment, perhaps you should invest in some time with an IFA.

You're focusing on geographical allocation but my point was more fundamental, i.e. being 100% in equities is high risk, wherever those equities are, and as such is only suited to those who are able to understand and accept that risk.

You are right i thought index funds and ETF were lower risk as not just 1 company. Need to think about it properly on the next way forward not to end up buying high and messing things up but it is meant to be long term so made a mistake.

😮 If you go for a financial adviser, gawd's sake use an Independent one. S.J.P. are certainly not that.

Where does one find them and what fees do they charge. Will check the FCA site.

They are lower risk than buying single company shares. However, there are still many risk levels to choose from. If you look at Vanguard Lifestrategy, for example, they have different levels of risk with more/fewer bonds and shares. Not foolproof, but just one example of where you don't have to be all-in to global shares.
