It’s free money! We go all electric during power ups using electric for heating or water heating.

Power up tomorrow from 1-3pm paying 15p per extra kWh used. Agile meanwhile is charging 60p per kWh shortly after. What’s going off?

Got a text message for power up tomorrow between 1pm and 3pm.

Unusually it's a text message rather than email and doesn't indicate credit amount.

exactly same for me. Text not email 1-3pm and no amount mentioned. Still no email to date. Very likely to be a power up tomorrow looking at emoncms wind and solar forecast.

Last night I asked E.on via WhatsApp if the Power Up text message was genuine.

I have just received this reply..

"Thank you for getting in touch about the text message you received.
Power Up events are usually sent via email, and the last one we sent was on the 17th of July for the event on the 18th. Since then, there haven’t been any more Power Up events scheduled or communicated"

I've now sent them a copy of the text and asked them to confirm it's not genuine but probably wont get a response for a few hours.

"Regarding how they got your phone number, I can assure you that E.ON Next has not been hacked. Sometimes scammers get phone numbers from other sources outside of our control. If you have any concerns about your account security, changing your password as you mentioned is a good precaution."

In effect, a scammer would need to know 3 separate things about me to send that.. ie Eon customer, signed up to power ups, phone number.

I also called E.on and agent also said they don't send power up texts, only emails and nothing scheduled since 18th. Agent also mentioned I wasn't the first person to call regarding the text message but was adamant no breaches "as far as she was aware"

(For info...uploaded the text to Chatgpt and it thought it was genuine including the link in the text).

Be interesting to see if today is on the next "How much you have saved" email.
