Fraud

I had my bank account compromised and have just discovered from looking at my credit report that the fraudster has set up a credit card with Creation. I called their fraud line, but it’s closed for the Easter Holiday. Is this right?

Call the emergency number, as mentioned above.

The agent will probably take a note of what you say, but might not respond or comment or tell you what they will do. The reasons being:

    • They cannot check who you are. You won't be able to pass security checks, because you don't know the info the fraudster has provided.

    • You might be the one attempting fraud. i.e. You've taken out a credit card in your name, sent a few thousand on it, and now you're trying to claim that somebody else must have done it - to avoid paying the money back.

    • You might be a mischief maker. The cardholder is your ex, or your 'enemy', or your colleague etc, and you're trying to get their card cancelled in order to annoy them.

But even though they won't tell you this, they'll probably put a block on the card - and wait for the supposed cardholder to contact them, to ask them why it's blocked.

In particular change all passwords - if they have compromised your bank account they will likely have hacked other accounts (e-mail for example). Make all passwords unique (use a password manager) and turn on 2FA for all accounts that support it.
