I buy the expensive phones, new and SIM free, but then hang on to them for as long as possible, essentially until they die.
Fairphone isn't a "cheap" phone.

I do the same but with around a £200 limit, I only replace them if they die (actually only happened the once when the screen started to separate layers) or more usually when I'm a couple of releases off the latest Android with no possibility of an upgrade.
Don't think I'd even hear of Fairphone before.

Fairphone is a Dutch phone brand/manufacturer of phones (and other electronics) designed to be self repairable - you can replace the screen, camera, etc. yourself.

I've had good experiences with Xiaomi phones, my last was a 13t. I nearly bought a nothing phone 3 pro recently as that had good specs I thought (telephoto lens, wireless charging and a clean version of android) but the Motorola 60 edge pro appeared on offer and I went with that instead. Camera has a telephoto lens, 6000mh battery, wireless charging and so far I'm really pleased with it. Obviously not going to compete on all areas of a flagship model, but I'm happy 😁

I bought a new phone for £169 today. It’s coming in the post. £169 for a Samsung!!!! That just goes to show. I do feel a tiny bit concerned about the ethics.
I couldn’t find an iPhone for less than £999.
If I can’t transfer my eSIM over I will have to return it.

There is also the question of legality - many premises, venues and performances expressly forbid filming without permission. Yes I know it goes on but if caught they could confiscate and prosecute - and they do.

You can get an iPhone for £600 from Tescos so I’m guessing that’s the going rate.

You could always go to a small venue. It will be cheaper as well.

My last phone was a Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro and it was that one that the screen started to separate into individual layers, admittedly it was good until that point, stuff happens I guess. Presently have an Honor 200 Lite which is (being newer) even better. Which made me think to check, and MagicOS/Android 16 is due out this month for mine.
Sadly looks like it'll be the last major update for my phone but should do until 2028 or so. I'll take 4 years of use out of it.

Thats sucks, fortunately the 3 I had have been generally fine. I don't spent a fortune on phones as I'm not really bothered about high quality photos and tbh I don't treat them brilliantly. My wife on the other hand likes to take photos and spends more and looks after her phone
