Barclaycard rewards questions

Hello

So I'm travelling to Europe next week and don't use my debit card at all for spending so ive disabled for International spending etc.

I have a Barclaycard rewards card that I use for day to day spending but I cant see any card controls on the barclays app so I'm not sure if the spending controls on the debit card control both cards?

Basically in short do I have to activate international on my debit card to use Barclaycard abroad?

I will say upfront that I'm not sure for Barclays in particular.

But as a general rule of thumb, current accounts (hence debit cards) are entirely separate products (even if from the same provider) from credit cards, so need to be treated as such.

Simple answer - give them a call.

But are you wanting to use the credit card for spending abroad? It can be a good option, from an MSE perspective, if it's one of the ones that doesn't charge an FX fee.

You shouldn't need to let them know that you plan to use it abroad, it should in theory work anywhere. Many years ago, it use to be fairly common that you could let your card issuer you were going abroad, purely to avoid any "suspicious activity" blocks. These days, it seems less common. But there's no harm in a quick phone call, just to be sure.

I don't believe that there are any card limit controls on the Barclaycard app - something I have seen criticised here. I have used my card abroad and didn't tell them in advance I was away.

The Barclaycard rewards card is fee free I'm pretty sure. Cheers for the advice though 👍
