I received this letter in the post. Has anyone heard of this before because I'm highly sceptical that its likely to be a scam???

Do you have a cable running under your property - this would have been identified by your conveyancing solicitor when you purchased the property?

I'd be surprised if there is such a cable and you are not aware of it. If such a cable exists, there would be something in place for the owner to access and maintain it.

Not a scam, but they'll take 20%+vat of any settlement, and you can easily pursue this for free if you are so inclined.

I would contact your DNO directly to check this out. In particular I think you should be offered a recurring payment, rather than a "full and final".

I used to regularly get these for the cable that ran across just the other side of my boundary, so a lot of it is guesswork. Or wrong.

I had someone knock on my door a couple of weeks ago because I have an electricity pole and stay in my front garden, they reckon i can get £350 compensation for it. Was sceptical to start with but after some research it looks legit.

Thanks everyone, I'll look into it further then. I've owned the property for 23yrs and never known about this so doesn't appear to have caused any issue for me
