Missed flight due to departure gate not being announced.

When I flew Ryanair, it was essential to have the Ryanair app.
You say you could not use the Ryanair app because of being a group booking. Did any of the others on the group booking make the flight?

Is that board what you are complaining about? (Elsewhere you've got a photo of boards saying "Technical fault - please see staff etc etc"
If that board then you had a 17:40 flight to Dubrovnik(?) but at 17:42 it was still saying that the gate would be announced at 16:40?
How long did you leave it after 16:40 before trying to find out what was happening?

We waited until the boards went down at 17.00. There were people on many different flights in the same position so there was a mass exodus from the departure lounge at the same time. It took us 20 minutes find out the gate number and to walk there, Gate 52 is about the furthest away from the terminal, by which time the flight had closed. The screen came back up while I was waiting in the Ryanair Customer Service queue, still showing the same message as before it had crashed.

I'd speak to your insurer, explain the course of events as you have here, show them the photos and invite them to check with the airport to verify the problem.

how could they have gone to the gate if it wasn’t displayed

If everyone missed that flight, then that would be very clear. If only this group of people missed it, it's pretty difficult to explain. I don't doubt that OP found it challenging; no one wants to miss their flight; it is whether there were other ways they could have taken, as the rest of the travellers, to find their way.

How did the other passengers board? Or do you think nobody turned up at the gate, and the Ryanair crew just shrugged their shoulders and flew off with an empty plane?

Gates can be notified/checked in lots of ways, the boards, in apps, by checking the airport//airline website.. asking a member of staff..

you seem to want to shift the blame to the OP.
In hindsight we would all be checking out apps and websites but the departure boards are there for a reason.5
