But the OP has stated the gate number was never announced, so going anywhere at 1700 would have been quite difficult. Gate info at Leeds is advised about 30-40 minutes before scheduled departure.

With 180 people on a typical Ryanair flight I would be surprised if the flight left with 0 people on board and so somehow the majority of people managed to get to the gate in time.

Did you check the airport website departure board? Was it up or down?

Did you check the Ryanair website departure board?

There were many other options of places to check it feels like you just too the instruction to relax a little too far.

As to Insurance, would need to see the exact policy wording but typically whilst they do cover missed departure its only if its caused by certain things like public transport being cancelled, an RTA with you being stuck in the resultant gridlock etc. I have seen prior claims with people saying faults in airport equipment which delayed them getting through was a breakdown of public transport but most such claims have been declined as an airport itself isnt transport plus in this case the OP almost certainly had alternative methods of finding out the details in the absence of the in airport boards.

Like 30 million other people I too travelled via Stansted airport in the last year.

There are dozens of boards showing departures and their gates, got to be six in the Wetherspoons alone.

Is the OP's claim that all the screens showing departures/gates were showing incorrect "Relax" instructions followed by all the screens crashing?

They normally call out people's names if they are late to board but have already checked in. Looks like too many problems took place

I suspect the gate number was announced on the board and/or airport website - before the board went down.

The point I'm making is that the OP should have been at the gate at the point the board failed, not still in the lounge /departure shops

Name announcements are usually when it is almost too late to board.

But which gate? That's the problem - we didn't know which gate we were to head to because it wasn't announced!

These were the screens after the system crashed.

I think they only call out a name if you have checked baggage - in the hope you'll get immediately to the gate and avoid the need to offload bags which delays the plane. If you are travelling hand baggage only, the plane can just go.

Did their website and the Ryanair website also crash? Both have departure board information on there

We didn't stop to check the airport or Ryanair website when the screens crashed. We asked at the information point for our boarding gate number and went there immediately.
