No, I don't think I've ever had that type of notification on BBC sounds. We do have it on the TV when we log into iPlayer, but that's just a confirmation that we have a licence (which we do).

I wonder why the OP is resistant to Sounds?

So what is the difference between using the app and just registering with BBC account in order to listen to Sounds?

You don't need a TV licence to listen to BBC Sounds.

Have you tried clicking the desktop site button in the options menu in Chrome on your mobile (3 dots at the top and then scroll down and click desktop site). It may force it to behave like it does from the website.

And, if that doesn't work, try changing the user agent string to that of a desktop browser.

I tried that myself but it changes to the Sounds weblink before you get a chance to change it to desktop. There used to be an experimental setting where you could set it to the desktop version permanently but that seems to have gone. Perhaps a different browser would work but I can't see what's wrong with the Sounds version so couldn't be bothered looking.

Choose desktop version in your mobile processor. It is most likely choosing mobile by default.

The BBC have a huge job in tracking listener numbers for their radio stations. They need these to justify expenditure, rather than for advertisers (obviously). They ran into issues where various international radio aggregators (e.g. TuneIn) 'front ended' the BBC-direct sites, as they lost audience information (country, numbers etc). (Also, I imagine, the quality could vary, which would be beyond BBC control)

Hence the BBC 'encourage' the use of the Sounds app on mobile devices, as they then have a much more direct connection with the listener, from which both should benefit.
