Listening to BBC

On my laptop, I can listen to Radio 4 using the following link:

https://www.bbc.com/audio/play/live/bbc_radio_fourfm

(…bbc.com/audio/play/live/bbc_radio_fourfm )

But when I try it on a mobile phone, it changes the web address to something with /sounds/ in it.

How can I force the phone to use the address I entered?

When I click on your link above for Radio 4 my web address changes to sounds on my laptop

Why do you need to force it to use the address which is not /sounds/ ? Are you outside of the UK?

If I wanted to use Sounds, I wouldn't need this thread.

There is no clean way to “force” a mobile phone to stay on the BBC Radio 4 URL. The redirect to BBC Sounds for mobis is intentional and enforced at server level.

They are probably just trying to be helpful. I think it's common practice for firms that have apps.

What difference does it make in terms of user experience? Is there a specific functionality you are looking for?

I have the same or similar problem. I listen to BBC sounds on my tablet and laptop quite happily but when I tried it on my phone it insists that I register and get the app.

You can regisiter using any old made up email address if you wish.

I don't use the app very often but it comes in handy sometimes.

I don't understand your problem with the BBC Sounds app. Like you, I get a bit fed up with companies trying to force me to download their apps but BBC Sounds is so worthwhile IMO. I use it daily. It's great for catching up on programmes I've missed and downloading programmes when no signal is available.

Does the BBC app require you to sign in and register that you have a TV licence? Perhaps it is a way for BBC to control viewing on mobile phone by people without a TV Licence and / or to permit viewing by people with a TV licence when travelling abroad.
