Just so you know I didn't know what a cleat was; I didn't go shopping for one but when I saw it I realised it was what I needed and that's a Toots job ticked off, too.
I wwas just eating my tea when DD walked in, not having made it to the gym due to traffic/obstructions so that worked well - her tea was ready and it was no faff.
WeeNancy - how fascinating!

It's just typical, isn't it. We go years without any interruption to the water supply, two chaps move in that shower at the end of the day after work, and …. I was running some water to do my teeth last night, last thing, literally, and I noticed it was discoloured. Fortunately I keep a stash of water so I was able to bung a 2 litre bottle outside each of their doors and text them to explain that there was a problem. Turns out they realised - there was a 30' geyser shooting up outside the C0-0p at the bottom of the road they both stopped and admired on their way home! It's all back to normal this morning. Apparently the machine that rips up the tarmac prior to resurfacing had nicked a water main; very spectacular and if I'd known I'd have popped down there to see it.
I need to pot up some plugs I bought at the garden centre last week and today's the day for that job as it's lovely and sunny and warm. The only compost I have is a bit used so I needed to get to where I keep the chicken pooh and bonemeal, which involved turning out the cupboard under the front steps because we've been heaving stuff in there all winter and it was a tad cluttered to say the least. It took a couple of hours. The sunflower hearts, most of the cat foods and dog food are now stored in airtight containers and Higgs and Wren both had a feast of the various bits of things that spilled. And I've measured out enough of Wren's food to keep her going for a few days, but I threw the towel in on that job when Twiggle joined in the fun so I was being besieged on three sides.
I've now almost finished making some loo roll paper pots to bring the plants on for a bit, and while I'm mucking about with spent compost I'll plant some seeds as well, seeing as I have a mini greenhouse and the temperatures are pretty good here.
Did a bit of vacuuming while I was at it. Feel rather virtuous today.
Better is good enough.Note to self: Motivation follows Action, not the other way around.8 -
Ah virtuous I ain’t, HB. I tried to be - ensuite and downstairs toilet cleaned this morning. Then I went out to join ex work colleagues for lunch. When I came back, it was so warm that I got waylaid in the garden , hardly making it indoors. 2 buckets of weeds removed from the border amid lots of “contemplation”- that is flying, isn’t it?
I just remembered some flying - one load of washing done and still out on the line. I will go and retrieve that now.6 -
Been at my vol job though I did get washing out before I went, including the tablecloth, which is huge.
Fetched tea towels and laundry basket from vol job. Stuck the j cloths on the line to dry before I binned them because they were whiffy and I don't like wet stuff in my bin. I have also wiped the laundry bin and it's outside drying too.
Tea is simmering on the hob (lazy risotto)

Evening all. Two loads of washing done today and dried out in the sunshine, lovely. Took DGD4 to school, then I went home for shopping delivery. After that to local town for a walk by the river, then coffee. Home again and I cut the grass, dug a deeper hole under the down pipe in the front garden. It was deeper but the soil has gradually filled up again and it was nearly to the top in the last couple of downpours. Should be OK for a while now. Then I got rid of the weeds on the pavement outside the back garden wall. This afternoon I picked DGD4 up from school, back to her house to collect her dog and take him out while she played in the park, took him home then took her back to mine for tea. Dropped her back in time to get ready for Cubs. Back home and made tea, washed up and collapsed.

Evening all. I have made some progress with the FH recording today, but there is still an awful lot to do, and I'm meeting T next Wednesday to explain what I've done and hand over all the paperwork. Yikes!!!
Obviously I haven't been stuck in front of the computer for every minute of the day - I do need a cuppa occasionally, and Rosie also needs regular attention. But I'm also having to clear up a mess from last night that was entirely of my own making: I took a frying pan out of the drawer to cook our tea, put it on the hob, switched on, and a few seconds later realised that something was seriously wrong because the electric hob had started smoking. As I grabbed the pan and lifted it off the hob I realised that one of the thin pads that I keep under and between all the saucepans in the drawer to prevent scratching must have stuck to the bottom of the frying pan, and so the pad had ended up directly on the hob. Microfibre outer layers with plastic foam filler really do not react well to a ceramic hob on full power! Thankfully I was able to fling the kitchen window wide open and let the fumes out. Yesterday evening and at intervals throughout today I have been scrubbing burnt-on bits off the base of the frying pan (which is now clean) and the second-most-frequently-used ring on the hob (which, with the help of a bottle of decent hob cleaner, looks better than it did 24 hours ago but is absolutely not fit for use yet). I know I was very, very lucky not to have caused a major fire / succumbed to poisonous fumes / ruined an almost new frying pan. It will certainly teach me to check exactly what I'm putting on the hob in future.
Somehow my blood pressure was perfect when I went to the surgery this morning to have it checked professionally. That's a miracle!
I had to go out this evening for the annual excitement of the church council meeting at which we approve the verified accounts prior to their publication in the Annual Report, but the meeting started and ended early, so since coming home I have sat and watched television for an hour and finished the second sleeve of the baby cardigan that I'm making out of half a leftover ball of wool.
I'm off now to try to get a good night's sleep so that I can tackle both the FH paperwork and the hob again tomorrow with renewed vigour. G'night all xxx

Did anyone work out how to 'quote' but delete bits of the quote?
Ionafan how can you stack takeaway boxes and find that the lids still fit? While we don't often have takeaways, the lids seem to miraculously change shape so they never fit the containers any more!!
Mr N managed to get a GP appt this morning by ringing at 8am; he's been given antibiotics for what is presumably a chest infection (GP didn't actually say - so we'll look on the NHS app tomorrow and see what he wrote). Hopefully he will start feeling better soon and not keep both of us awake such a lot coughing. I didn't feel brilliant this morning but I don't think I've caught his lurgy, which is fortunate.
Had a photo from stepbro this morning; sick stepsister is now at home for her final however long. On the topic, friend M in Somerset is now on patches for pain relief but the nurse still had to be called out 2/3 times last week to administer extra.
Went to 'work'. All archiving today, and on such a lovely sunny day too. The college campus has lots of wild daffodils which are beautiful; I saw 2 butterflies whizzing about as I walked from the car park.
Went to zumba.
Did drumming practice.
Did a bit of knitting.
Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.
It's tough getting rid of the past but it does free up space for the future.9 -
Morning all
Am back from visiting mum, have caught up on fred - hugs, vibes, spoons & big sticks for anyone in need. for the rest of the week I will be baby stepping the basics as I catch up with flying.

Put case away
General tidying
FUPA
PUPA
Then some computery admin for ...
mum
DS
OH

Yes Narc0, I wash our plastic takeaway boxes in the DW on "eco" at 50deg and the lids still fit perfectly.
My achievements so far today:
- made a GP appointment - as per triage instructions from the surgery - for a week on Friday!!!
- S&S'd kitchen, including more scrubbing of the hob
- PUPA all through downstairs, including consolidating the dregs in all three open bags of Rosie's dry food (different flavours!) into one mix
- blitzed DH's ensuite, gave the main light switch in his bedroom a good clean (yuck!) and dusted everywhere
- hoovered all through downstairs, except for DH's room which is up to him
- watered all the houseplants
- tidied my bed (duvet flung back to air)
- FUPA DH's clean laundry
- S&S'd the bathroom after my shower
- took all my towels and bathmats to the utility (awaiting DH's before I start the WM)
- made coffee for both of us, and decluttered a scone straight out of the freezer (plain, without any jam, butter or cream) with mine
We are all going out to the forest for lunch and a walk, but first I want to do another 1.5 hours FH, writing up the next, much smaller, family group.
Hope you're all having a good day and enjoying the sunshine xxx
