    So when the leaves start to come up they are red and quite pointed. That has always been the first sign for me after winter dormancy.

    And that's a good time to attack them with weedkiller.

    Until the dormant plant produces leaves it's impossible to tell what they are. ChatGpt could be right. I guess you'll find out

    20 years dealing with knotweed and it doesn't look like that. JK rhizome is bright orange, almost carrot like.

    thank you everyone for your help, would I not need to cut into the stump to see if it orange thought, as unless you look at a section end gran sort of thing I would know?

    I might pop back to the property tomorrow any tips on what to do?

    Maybe I should cut into this piece with a saw?

    Also I believe sometimes there not always orange especially if it the root and not the rhizome?

    should I cut the already dug up bits in half to see if it’s orange or like the light yellow colour in the photos I uploaded

    or dig a test spot or pull some out of the ground?


    Any pointers for me tomorrow while have a look to see if it’s is JKW PLEASE?

    Look it up on the RHS (The Royal Horticultural Society) website. It has pictures of the common stages and a balanced approach to dealing with it.

    There should be a declaration somewhere on the buyers pack, where the owner has been asked about knotweed.
