Constant blocked drains

Hi all,

Can anyone give any possible reasons why this could be occurring pleas?

For the last 7 years, 2 or 3 times per year my home, house next door, and house next door to my neighbours toilets/sinks all get backed up. Each time Scottish water puts a camera down and each time says that the blockage starts at the house 2 down stream from me. The slowly backs up to my house. However, the house that the blockage starts at whixh is the 2nd house down stream from me noticies it first, the my next door neighbour but it seldom affects me as my two neighbours norice it first.

The 3rd home down stream from me says they have never had an issue with blockages. But we share the same drain so obviously its the 2nd house down where the issue always starts at.

Does anyone possibly know what the possible issues could be?

Last week when SW were out I told him it happens 2 or 3 times per year and he said thats not normal and he would request an investigation.

What are house number two putting down the drains that they shouldn’t be?

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

we have this and apparently someone further down is flushing baby wipes that block the drain

  • Yes, it's usually any form of wet wipes. Anything that isn't toilet tissue will not break down and possibly cause a blockage.

Used to happen at my son’s house until one of the tenants moved out from two doors down. No problems since. They were flushing wet wipes, cotton buds, all sorts really, down a Victorian sewer.

The answer is surely in SW's hands? At least it should be.

I think you can safely state it's caused by either a fault in the sewer pipe at that repeated blockage point, or by the wrong stuff being sent down the sewer by one or more of the top three properties.

SW say they will investigate. The content of the blockage will hopefully provide the answer.

it is the water company job to sort out as it's a shared sewer. United utilities come out and unblock ours every time it happens

  • Severn Trent used to put leaflets through the doors as well advising on what could and could not be flushed. Never made any difference. Some people….

The young couple next door thought that 'disposable nappies' meant 'dispose down the toilet'. Thankfully, the lad's dad sorted it before too much damage was done - but I heard words that I had rarely heard during my 22 years in the Armed Forces.

I have had this for going on 20 years. Happens all the time and it was always wipes or sanitary pads and tampons.

They would block up every few months, and it would be always me calling the water company as I would suffer the worst (due to the sewer pipe locations) and the water company would send out letters saying "don't flush these items" but they would keep doing it.

Thankfully those neighbours moved out and it happens less now (still happens sometimes).

Sadly some people just keep doing things even if it causes issues and even when they get letters saying not to flush items for this exact reason.
