Downgrading Club Lloyds account
To anyone who had to downgrade their Club Lloyds account before opening a new Premier account, how long does it take before the website allows you to open the new account? Is it instant?

Pretty much instant. If you're having issues you might need to log out and back in to refresh the changes

I downgraded my Club Lloyds single account last weekend (I still have a joint club Lloyds), with a view to opening a new club Lloyds or even a Premier account to get the switching bonus.
I am not offered a Club Lloyds or Premier when logged in. only a Classic, Silver, or Platinum don't know why.

I had the same problem a while back, same situation - downgrading solo a/c while keeping joint club lloyds. It said I couldn't upgrade the solo to club again without going into a branch. I gave up.

Yeah, the problem is that the online banking won't let you open a new CL/Premier account if you already hold one, regardless if it is sole/joint and you are technically eligible to open a new one. You either need to open the 2nd account in branch, or downgrade all your accounts to Classic and then online banking will let you open a new one.

Exactly the same position as I was in. As others say you cannot have a Premier and Club Lloyds at the same time. You will have to downgrade/close the joint Club Lloyds account also, only then will you be able to open the Premier account. You cannot hold a joint Premier Account.
Once you hold a Premier account you will not be able to open a new, or upgrade an existing account to, Club Lloyds.

My plan, after receiving the £500 bonus, was to convert the Premier to a Club Lloyds. But you say we can't do this? So I would have to close Premier and then re-open a new Club account. Hoping that works as I don't want the Premier for any longer than I need for the bonus!

Sounds like a good opportunity to ditch Lloyds entirely and fast switch it to another institution's regular account for another £150 - £175 then. That's what I'll probably be doing. 😊
• The rich buy assets.
• The poor only have expenses.
• The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.1 -
I've had most switch offers so I don't think there is anything else open to me currently.
The Lloyds Premier switch is the only one I've managed to aim for recently

If you can't do it directly then you should be able to downgrade to a Classic account (fee-free) and then re-upgrade to a CL account if that's what you want.
