Freely why so secret on HD programs.

Freely boxes now coming into shops I guess to give us all TV over the internet on the upcoming aerial and satellite shut downs.

I've been Searching on my Browser to find out just which programs are in HD and failed, all I found was that there are 35 in HD.

So question is what are they?

Note from Internet only I see from the TVs with Freely have to have an aerial as well as internet. I want everything from internet.

Doesn't have to have an aerial at all.
https://www.freely.co.uk/help/faqs/top-up-channels - "Freely works with your Wi-Fi. But, if you choose to you can include channels via an aerial."

Much like Freeview not everything in HD.

"Much like Freeview not everything in HD"

Well Bazdvd list lots more in Freely than the few HD on Freeview.

And even the non-HD channels on Freely are of a higher quality PQ than the equivalent on Freeview.

I'd go for a freely TV/box with both internet and aerial ( assuming you already have an aerial connection), as your internet feed or hub can fail and you can be waiting some time for your ISP to fix it. At least you could watch TV while waiting! 😉

With freely IP channels the resolution you get depends on the channel and the speed of your internet connection when watching. So it's not possible for a channel to guarantee you will receive it in HD.

Yes ok on that, good modern TV with Freeview and Freesat.

    @d123

I've found Freesat to be better quality picture than Freeview.

I have no problem with the HD ones on Freesat, Freeview and Netflix on 150 Mbs BB are you saying the 35 HD channels on Freely will be different?

Services delivered over the internet use what is called adaptive streaming. The channel provider creates 3-6 different versions for different internet speeds. The TV chooses one based on the available capacity at the time. It can switch between the different versions every few seconds. The different versions can be different resolution and different quality.

So if it's peak time when everyone is using the internet, your available speed maybe slowed from its peak speed by the isp not having enough capacity, or your WiFi maybe slowed by lots of congestion of the WiFi radio bands by neighbours also using their WiFi.

In these slowdowns the adaptive streaming will switch to a lower quality/resolution version, but when the congestion abates it will switch back to the highest quality version that your connection can maintain.

    @ bubieyehyeh

I won't be using wi-fi, I use an ethernet cable network.

Do you or others use Freely and loose quality on Freely HD channels.

( By the way I tried to buy one of the Freely boxes to day and it seems impossible to obtain them, so maybe no one will have experience of Freely boxes.)
