I Need to Send a Fax to the USA... How?

I need to send three documents to a company in Pittsburgh USA.

Their fax number is 800-xxx-xxxx. This is the number to dial if I was in the US.

How do I dial this number internationally?

Do I simply dial the USA international dailing code which is 001 and then 800-xxx-xxx

Many thanks

Try the USA code plus the number, if it doesn't connect it won't cost you anything.

Definitely a UK number. Is it possible they have an office in the UK and this is that number?

Using the name of the company you should be able to get a phone number or email to ring and ask.

Or you could try faxing a single sheet stating on it that this is a trial to see if it works before sending documents.

Do you have access to a fax machine or can you use a computer to send a fax?

Fax machines are obsolete and have been for several years. Can you not scan the documents to PDF and attach to an email?

If the documents are of a sensitive nature, note that a fax has no security whatsoever.

You can call US "800" numbers by preceding it with 001 (1 is the international code for the US), so it should be 001800xxxxxx.

That should work for faxes too (if you can find a working fax machine!)

Note, while 800 is a US free number you will pay standard international rates.

How do you work out that it's a UK number? If it was it would start with a zero, i.e. 0800, because it starts 800 that is, as the OP describes, a US number format.

From a standard UK phone you would dial 00 for an international line, 1 for the US international code and then the number.

If you are using a company phone then you may need to add another digit, often 9, first to show you want an outside line rather than calling an internal extension number.

Some online services you are better off doing +1 rather than 001 because some other countries use a different prefix for international but "+" is the almost universal indicator and the software will convert it to whatever is required for where the printer actually is (eg Japan is 010 rather than 00 for international)
