So, when you got the call, did you perhaps tip them off that that you were expecting a call back from HP?

Hi Algarve.
Do you have Malwarebytes on your PC? Do you know anyone you can ask to have a look at your PC?

I did ask the OP if they had to install and software for remote access but I don't think I got an answer

When you buy a new printer then does not the documentation give you a GENUINE email contact address? No need to start looking online and being caught by a dodgy site

OP said they used start up guide that came with the pc and gave them hp.com/start/Envy.
It's 3 posts above mine I think.
It's confusing because OP is on about printer but mentions pc start up and I think most printers these days don't come with any dvd/cd to install software as you download it.

The guy had control of my computer for over an hour so I suppose he could have installed anything ,Ihave done the normal virgin media malware check and it was clear

Yikes.
That really does sound like an attempt to infiltrate your PC. Such software can copy your keystrokes, and mirror your screen.
Do you do any actual 'buying' via your PC - using PayPal, bank account, etc?
Others will advise on the best way to check and safeguard your PC, but I use Malwarebytes which is free and seemingly very capable.
What method did you use to pay for this 2-year service? You might be able to recoup this. (And check it daily for unknown payments.)
Until you KNOW that this has been resolved, please be very careful using this PC. Do you have an alternative method - other PC, tablet, or phone - to check your accounts?

I think this is going in circles.
The OP needs someone in person to visit him and check his computer out and make sure it is safe for him to go on line.
I would ask has he a relative or friend who can do that?
I believe Age UK help seniors be safe on internet.

I don’t understand how this dodgy pop-up appeared if the OP was on the genuine HP site?
One possibility is they typed the HP website in a search bar and then clicked on a link to a 3rd party website in the search results, leading to a fake website designed to look like HPs.
Or perhaps their device was already infected from something else that happened previously.
