Today I bought a new printer HP envy 6100e

Tried to install found it hopeless ,contacted HP support who spent over an hour still could not get it up and running remotely, said he would call back when problem found.

He calls back says the problem is my windows 10 is no longer supported and i would need a new license it would be £130 for licence for 2 years then buy again.as i needed my printer I paid up.

Support says not hp fault but Microsoft being greedy ihave no other option ,I never had this problem before with all the printers i have bought ,is this the new norm from Microsoft … printer is now up and running

Thank You

Update …As suggested by forum member to contact bank about charge back ,bank fraud dept told me as I had willingly paid ( which i did to get printer up and running)thet I was unlikely to win.

Was told to contact paypal and open dispute and contact the Company which i could not located in india no answer to email .opened dispute paypal followed it through and within two hours had a call from John Wilson (indian accent) who set up my printer,

Told him as he called back he was genuine But lied to me and mislead me into buying software and license i did not need .challenged him about working for Hp, he said he works for a third party with hp ,i dont believe him

Upshot is he offered my money back if I cancel Paypal dispute ..As he did get my printer up and running and spent a long time 2hours I offered to split the difference as he may also be in a position to stop it working again .So i will have to wait and see.

A big thank you to all on the forum for thier input it was very helpful and made me carry on rather than just accept i may have been conned

Are you saying you had to pay £130 for Windows 11? It should have been free to upgrade unless your PC doesn't support it.

Who exactly did you pay the £130 to?

Window 10 drivers for this printer are here:

    https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/hp-envy-6100e-all-in-one-printer-series/2101795615

    And are a free download.

This has got nothing to do with Windows 10 dropping out of support, all that means you get no more updates, it doesn't mean anything and everything just suddenly stops working - doesn't work like that.

I suspect you've forked out £130 for HP to set it up on your Windows 10 machine.which contradicts what they just told you.

Unless the OP isn't giving the full facts I think they have been duped or preasured into upgrading.

I thought win 10 machine's that can be upgraded to 11 would of been done by now. That's if the user wants to upgrade.

If the pc has a license and can be upgraded to 11 then I think it was free and the 10 licence can be used to upgrade to 11 for activation.

    I could also be wrong.

The OP says they've paid £130 for 2 years of something that needs to be renewed. that's not a Windows licence thing (yet!), it would be more common for something like Office or I believe HP does offer tech support for a fee, and £130 sounds in the ball park area for that sort of thing.

The Windows 11 upgrades are free from 10 if the machine meets the hardware requirements (or you force it through)

Sorry OP but I'm not following.

You paid £130 then it worked?

(I'm concerned here as I'm considering buying a new HP computer and I do not wanting to be forking money out to get it to work.)

OP was almost certainly not dealing with genuine HP support, despite believing they were. This looks like a classic tech-support scam or at best an unauthorised third-party support service posing as HP.

At a minimum OP should contact his bank immediately, explain that he was misled into paying for a non-existent Windows licence, and ask for a chargeback. Many banks will also cancel and reissue the card if it’s been used with a scammer, which reduces the risk of further charges or the details being reused.

It wasn't a new pc, it was a new HP printer.

The current pc/laptop is Win 10 and the new printer wouldn't work with the pc so they called up HP support to get it working.

Yes I know but OP called HP Support and my proposed purchase is a HP product and like anyone else buying a new item would expect if they have problems the Support to help without paying £130.
