Credit card declined where is the issue?

Tried to book a flight with Jet2 and pay with my RBS mastercard. Transaction declined twice, Details checked second time and plenty of credit available. Not asked for otp authorisation code either time

Paid with HSBC Visa asked for OTP code went through no issue. All 3 transactions couldn't have taken more than a couple of minutes

Rang RBS who said my card was fine, that they could see the transactions and the issue was with Jet2 who should have requested an authorisation code but didn't.

Jet2 said the issue was with RBS. Who is right? Anyone know what went wrong?

I don't understand RBS's response - if they concede that they can see the attempted transactions then these must be the authorisation requests that they've declined? The relevant messaging protocol is completely standardised, as it has to be for billions of such requests to be fired around the world, so the idea that the requestor somehow omitted part of it doesn't sound plausible to me.

Had similar a couple of weeks ago with Barclaycard Visa. Failed OTP process. You will probably never know why it happened or who was at fault.

RBS are saying that I should have been asked to enter an OTP code. Normally it is sent to my mobile. But I wasn't asked for one

Can be related to browser integration & the pop up box for OTP. Which is retailer based.

Safari was a nightmare a couple of years ago, with many sites.

Issues like this show why you should always have a backup card available. I have had random fails like this - most recently Amex with Asda online. Used a MC that time.

The reason is very simple - Computer Says NO. And humans in the CS have no idea why, have no control over the computer, but will never admit this.

Random failures occur from time to time. I do not bother asking why. There has been a glitch somewhere. I always carry a MasterCard and a Visa issued by different banks.

I had a more persistent problem paying with Barclaycard online. I phoned Barclaycard on one occasion. They said that the 3 digit code was wrong. I knew that was not true. I eventually noticed that a 6 in my expiry date was in fact an 8 with some paint worn off.
