That's how I read it, and my intentions

There was no option to set the password for Tembo app, had to use screenlock password. I would never have chosen screenlock password. I did look into changing it, but couldn't find any way of doing it. On saying that, I've had the app for a while now and not looked into it again. It's locked behind a second password, and that will have to do.

Tembo
Very refreshing not to have to find passports and take selfies to open the account. I had intended to use Zopa for the direct debit to qualify for their cashback but unfortunately it's not on Tembo's list of banks.

Tembo app sends me an email with a code / unlock link every time I log in, not seen anyone else mention this

I don’t get this, I’m presuming my use of biometrics is the reason for this.

Tembo - My app login has now stopped sending an emailed code every time, must have been because it was a newly created account? Anyway all good now.

Just a bit clunky (at least on Android), seems you can choose to use biometrics (fingerprint/face) which they call "Facial Recognition" in settings, turn this off and it's an email "magic logon".
They wouldn't be able to insist on the same passcode as your screen lock - it's encrypted on the device and they couldn't know what it was, and even if they did know what would be the point of you entering it again on an unlocked phone.

On previous old devices with broken or non existent biometrics my apps have defaulted to using the device unlock code as "biometrics", I definitely did not set a password/pin in the app to the device unlock pin. The Monmouthshire BS App is one that defaults to taking the device unlock code on my old phone with no working biometrics.

Tembo - it will likely be this… normally I can login using fingerprint (Android), but if I haven't logged in for a few weeks, then it will require me to login via the email code.
also, it's worth adding from EA experience that Tembo will/should send an email when interest has been paid on the account - with interest being paid on the 8th working day, that won't always be the same date each month.

This is exactly what I get too. Never set any code and Tembo defaults to. As you say, that's what Mon BS also does. I guess I'm using an "ancient" mobile from 2023… 😂
